He didn’t develop a single game, console, or arcade machine himself, but don’t tell these survey participants that.

According to Eurogamer (via MyNintendoNews), the majority of the 1,000 people surveyed (26%) believe that Steve Jobs is the leading man who shaped video games. Meanwhile, Gabe Newell, the co-founder of Valve – one of the most influential companies in the industry – received only 16% of the votes. Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario – the most recognizable game character in the world – received only 7% of the votes. Oddly, Mark Zuckerberg, a guy who hasn’t done a darn thing for gaming (not directly, at least), received 3% of the votes.

Before you attempt to wrap your head around these survey results, let’s look at the facts.

I am not surprised. iPhone is a gaming platform, just because those are casual games, doesn't mean that they aren't qualified as games. Also looking at how much time people spend with their iPhones playing those games, it wouldn't surprise me that iPhone gaming has a solid percentage in that area.

The disagreement as I suspect is in the wording: Jobs influenced the gaming by making a platform for it, not directly.

For one thing, Tiff is not on any level what I would call a typical American.  She's not what I would consider a typical person.  I don't know any other genius geneticist anime-fan martial artist marksman model-level beauties, do you?

My sentiments exactly. Steve Jobs? He didn't even develop the iPhone.. Apple's engineers did.  ::)

Gabe Newell or John Carmick or Kojima or even Satoshi Tajiri have had more influence over gaming than fucking Steve Jobs.

Hmm.... when it comes to influencing platforms for gaming, I would actually vote for Microsoft because they have bot Xbox and Windows.

Direct contribution... I will stick to the first holy trinity: American Pong, Japanese Pac-Man and Russian Tetris.   8)
