Print from an iPad? No, you misunderstand. I download journals on the desktop before I head out. I have a couple of alternatives (among others): put it on a tablet for reading, or print it out and carry paper for reading. The paper print obviously looks much better, but I'd need to keep paper+toner stock at home regularly, and that does add up to quite a bit. (Well, that's how it used to be for me as a student; I graduated a year ago though)

2048×1536 on tablets is definitely welcome. Can't wait to see how it looks on an actual retail unit. But it would be even better to see ebook readers (with e-ink screens) hit >200DPI first; that's the only thing stopping me from buying an ebook reader right now. I'm not actually itching for an iPad just yet; haven't taken to reading periodicals that regularly yet.

Different companies can pick up different areas. Also, Android seems more flexible than iOS so the difference between companies is possible.

I'd just like to see a reasonable performing economy model tablet that would force Apple's price-fixing price down.  The low-priced tablets are starting to appear, so Apple has to begin its upwards migration in resolution (or something) in order to preserve its "premium reputation" position.  Here's an example of Android tablet pricing in a retail store as of this Black Friday at Fry's (November 25, 2011).  You can see other low prices by clicking on the picture.  I just hope that tablets don't go to the "razor blade" or "inkjet printer" model of selling hardware where the consumable part of the product has to be replaced often.  In such a tablet, the battery would wear out frequently and you have to buy them at high price to keep on refilling your tablet.   I wouldn't mind a thicker tablet that accepted a bunch of AAA NiMH rechargeable batteries to keep it going.   It's why I refuse to buy products with sealed batteries such as Norelco shavers or Sonicare Elite because from my experience, the battery stops accepting a charge after so many uses thus forcing you to buy another.  I finally found brand-name electric shavers and sonicare that took rechargeable AA NiMH batteries, and am much much happier.  Almost ten years later and the shaver is still working ha ha ha.  So much for enforced planned obsolescence by Norelco *dirty eye* and Sonicare.
