There is a series of experimental crop fields, owned by the University of Saskatchewan, across the street from the research park where I work. Near where I cross the street every day, there is an incidental slough that has been threatening to dry up if it hasn't been for the rains we've been having.
There is a mated pair of Mallard ducks that have been inhabiting the slough since spring thaw.
I've been finding amusement by checking the slough out every morning to see if they're still there, and to see what they're up to.
They've been steadfastly hanging around until just the last few days, when we were getting 50 to 90 km/h gusting winds.
I miss them. Maybe they'll come back.
