Square-Enix [Gothic Online RPG in the works]
« on: December 01, 2011, 10:47:42 AM »

Going Diablo? Square UE action-RPG to have online play, says Ichimura. Real-time battles, okay Square-Enix? Real-time. Not pause and choose. And yes, make it interesting and like-Diablo playstyle but different characters, classes, story and environment.

Also, Unreal Engine?! Why in the world wouldn't you go with your Crystal Engine ...

Hmm ... this sounds interesting.
My questions are ...
    Which platform, PS3, X360, PC??
If it's muti-platform, can you play online between different formats??

Square Enix has like 10 projects in the works now.

They should go back to the quality>quantity formula...

I don't. Click on the link above, there are several links to the source.

There are no additional information on which platform this will hit. Since it's online, Microsoft will have another issue with Square Enix online policies if it goes multi platform. I'd rather keep it on PC.

Okies thanks ... was hoping for a bigger image.

If this does go Multi ... I just hope that if I have friends playing the PS3 & I'm using the PC one that we can play on the same servers.  That is what kinda pissed me off about the previous FF online games.

Why Unreal Engine? It has limitations that are not suited for big multiplayer sessions. That is the reason why Global Agenda failed as an MMO for example.

For one thing, Tiff is not on any level what I would call a typical American.  She's not what I would consider a typical person.  I don't know any other genius geneticist anime-fan martial artist marksman model-level beauties, do you?

FF11 was pretty kick ass in my mind. Only problem was that I could never find a group. When I did, they didn't speak English.

FF11 was great back in the day. I only played it for a month then switch to WoW. But for that month, it was pretty good.

lol that's not how GA failed

The gameplay is just repetitive trash until endgame.

They had plans for big warzones and all that, afterwards they admitted that those plans could not be fulfilled because of the limitation of the Unreal Engine. The biggest thing they managed to pull off are those defence raids. That is what I was referring to. If you think that good old pvp matches are "repetitive trash", that is your problem, because that kind of "repetitive trash" proved to be very successful from the old days of CS, Quake and UT games and lives on in BF3, GA, CoD, etc...

GA is still goin pretty strong...and are there any engines atm that can handle massive multiplayer?

OT:
does not want, not a big fan of diablo style games, and well...maybe it'll be surprisingly good, but my hopes are not up.

It is going strong as pvp multiplayer, not as an MMO which was the original idea.

To your second question, most respectable game developers make their own game engines to meet the demands for their MMO (World of Warcraft and Guild wars are excellent examples).

if this is poised as a diablo 2 style game then it should be pvp heavy also which unreal engine will hurt less

Indeed, just naturally sceptical about Unreal Engine being used in anything other than shooters.

So you don't the desert zone was boring as hell?

I cba to grind just so I can pvp, which is the main draw of this game. If I wanted to grind I'd go play Aion or something.

You don't, you can start pvp from a very low level. Also by the time they released the first desert zone, all 4 of my classes have been lvl 50 for a while.
