Decent 720p LCD HDTV for $120-$150 (New)?
« on: December 03, 2011, 03:24:07 AM »
I'm looking for a decent 720p LCD HDTV to replace the 15-17 inch CRT TV I am using as my bedroom TV.

Requirements:
17-19 inches or more.
720p LCD Display.
Headphone Jacks (mandatory).
Simulated Surround (Sound).
$120-$150 U.S.D. (after tax and shipping).
Best Buy must have it online or in store, I only have Best Buy Gift Cards.

Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)!

Note: My budget's max spending limit is $150, so please do not suggest an HDTV that would cost me more than $150 (after tax and shipping).

I guess I'm screwed then, because that's all the money I have access to, I won't be getting any more until next year (2012) on December 25th at the earliest.

Get a monitor? Most monitors support HDMI besides VGA and DVI. They also have audio ports and speakers (no idea how good the speakers are). Resolutions varies thou, most are like 1680 by 1050 and some are 1920 x 1080 (which is 1080p).

oh yea, now that tatsu mentioned it, you could get monitors instead of TVs which are alot cheaper indeed, if you do want it to work as a TV, you could get a tuner box.
Amazon 20"-21.9" LCD monitors

Edit: oh yea, if you'll pick a monitor btw, pick something like this BESTBUY AOC 21.5" 1080P E2243FW well because it looks neat and clean.

No thanks, I'm not interested in getting a new monitor instead of a new TV, I'd have to constantly move the monitor between my bedroom and the family room, since the computer is nowhere near my bedroom, and I can NOT bring it into my bedroom, my mom would never agree to it.

(the computer and monitor both belong to her, I don't have my own yet)

no no, you can convert the monitor into a tv via using a tuner box.

That doesn't change the fact that I can't move the Monitor into my bedroom, where the PS3 would always be...unless there's a way around that?

wait i dont get it, if you'll buy a TV instead of the monitor will you be able to move it into your bedroom? or is it that instead of buying a new screen you'll just use your current monitor?

If by "it" you mean the new TV, then yes I'd be able to move it into my bedroom.

Or is it that instead of buying a new screen you'll just use your current monitor?

I'd never consider using my current monitor, it's a 15-17 inch CRT like my current Bedroom TV is (though my TV is an actual TV, not a monitor).

ok, so if its a TV, then it can be moved to your bedroom. but if its a monitor, it cannot. odd even though their difference is only the name and the lack of a built in tuner, ohh well.

then you'll have to sneak around malls to check which TVs are affordable, i'm still lurking around bestbuy and seeing if i can find any 19"-22" TVs for below 150$

Edit:
[BESTBUY Sale: $119.99]Dynex™ - 19" Class / LED / 720p / 60Hz / HDTV
[BESTBUY Price: $129.99]Viore - 19" Class / LED / 720p / 60Hz / HDTV

Sadly true, if I did buy a new monitor it'd become my mother's property, since the computer still belongs to her.

Thanks kitamesume, and did you try searching here?

Thanks kitamesume :), hopefully those four HDTVs will still be sold at the same price on December 25th (Christmas) or January 18th (My Birthday), I won't actually have the Best Buy Gift Cards until then ^_^.

My mom told me the HDTV is a Christmas present actually (which mean I can't use it until Xmas), but thanks for the early happy birthday, even though that's not until January 18 lol.

If the TV breaks down in the first 30days, you can return it to the BestBuy for a new one if purchased on credit card right?  Otherwise, the remaining part of the warranty has to be done by shipping it to the manufacturer for repair.   Thus, NOT USING your monitor right after purchase can risk you finding out that after 10 days of use it was "weak" and decided to break down on the 11th day.

^ when i buy parts, specially monitors, i kinda got it to habit of bombarding it with stress tests for at least 3hours straight, if not a single error pops up i can either decide to let it stay asleep for a few weeks or go and use it.

PS: for monitors i use 5different colors(black, white, red, blue, green) and random shuffle it, slow at first to see if theres any dead pixel, and then increase the rate to 60FPS to match the refresh rate of the monitor.
