Razer Nostromo vs. Logitech G13
« on: December 25, 2011, 09:37:53 AM »
Thread title. Links below.

Logitech G13

Razer Nostromo

I also need a button to allow me to press it once - note, NOT hold the button - to shift me to my secondary keybinds. If I press that button again or any other button, it would initiate or cancel the secondary keybinds and reverts me back to my original keybinds.

Which model is better for gaming? Ignore the price point, both are about 50-55 dollars so that's not going to hurt my budget.

If you have experience with one or both of them, do tell me which do you have and how you feel the impact was on your gaming.

hijacking, any clue if theres a 25$ or less mice there that works really well? i mean tracks really well and has a reputation of not breaking down in months. oh and it should be physically big, kinda not accustomed with small mices.

Edit: ok to fill some more info, i've been using 10$ and below mices and the regular problems are breakdown of the buttons and the tracker isn't tracking well, small movements couldn't be detected and sometimes the cursor jumps. haven't picked up a mice worth more than 40$.
but i did got one experience on a RAZER abyssus and it picked up the small movements i usually make, though since you guys are against RAZER, any other options?

Edit2: oh and the reason i usually just take the cheapo mices is because i usually dont use the warranty, when it breaks i personally pry it open and replace the broken parts, one mice that annoyed me with its uber bright red led got it's led cut off~
though can't fix the tracker, its not broken but rather just isn't designed to track small movements?

I like logitech as a brand. (Based on previous experience with them. I have never had anything bad or annoying with everything I bought)

closest thing i can see to the mx510/518/g5 mice i have used and am currently using.
If it is built similar to them which i suspect it likely is then as long as your not retarded it should last a while. Being it is a optical try not to drop it to much or you might fuck up the prisms and shit.
i usually get 2 yrs + out of my logitechs, 2 the cord died(1 mx510 1 mx518) 1 had a button started sticking got me angry one day in a match and it got smashed and 1 im using currently (g5) had it for at least 2 years now
o wait i killed 2 mx510s and 1 mx518 1 g5
i have since i ruined my mx518 with the cord repositioned my desk the cord used to get caught and tugged on CONSTANTLY which is why it was never a shock when they died after a year or 2 of abuse

^ if the cords and buttons that usually fails i could usually replace them, but if the tracker is an epic fail then i can't do much about it~
taking a look at it, and seeing if its available on my area.

the main issue i've been annoyed with mices most of the time is that they fail to track my small movements, sometimes jumps when it succeeds to track it which is annoying, specifically annoying when aiming for a headshot that looks like a dot from my screen XD.
other issues like failure of the buttons is pretty much just a hassle, though i still don't like it happening, at least it should last a year before annoying me.

well if this helps, my habits:
spamming the left click instead of holding it when using an auto-rifle, saves me alot more ammo than holding the left click.
small tracking to the point of pixel by pixel, well not really that fine tracking but you get the point.
loves to right click files.
dang loves to use MPC's slider to scroll by seconds, wish i could do it by frame.
usually the wheel gets worn out on me, i dunno why, heh.
i rarely lift my mouse, well because usually i set the sensitivity to max.

I have the Logitech G510 keyboard (for over a year now) and the Logitech G700 mouse (for over a year now). Both still works as well as brand new. They weren't cheap though. I never did like going cheap on hardware that you use every day.

ok i've looked up some of the shops i usually buy from, the issue is most of their products is either A4tech or razer, hardly any reputable logitech though theres the ones more than 50$ like the G9X and G500... too expensive as of my current budget.

to note: the A4tech Oscar XL-750BK seems to have caught my eye, being less than 30$ seems a big catch, any experience on it? looking up google for reviews atm.
update: no comments about breakdowns so far, good tracking ability too and two buttons are programmable.
ok... one comment convinced me that this one is well over worth it for the price, durability unknown. though i'll need 2 weeks to get the extra 5$ XD all i have is 25$ atm haha.
note: well to explain about my budget, i only get 15$ allowance a week though i only have a schedule of twice a week =P but usually use up 12$ for food and transport, leaving me with 3$ more or less behind. poor me aren't i?

Edit: since i've hijacked this thread a little too much, might as well give a comment about the real topic.
the G13 looks nicer specs wise, plus it looks much more comfortable. looking at the reviews loitering around google it seems like it's performance is top notch though new users seems to have a hard time following the manual, specially the programming part. haven't seen a complain about it breaking down, and thats usually a pros.
Edit2: another thing, seems like the G13's keypad is heavily biased on the WASD keys.

Edit3: i started looking up razer's, looks like its even more heavily biased on the WASD keys, plus it seems to have more complains than the G13 about comfort and key positioning. haven't seen any comments outside of these.

idk how you can live with $15 a week. I almost feel bad enough to donate a keyboard to you.

^ the 15$ a week is for two days of use, before when i had a 5day schedule i'd get 40$ worth a week, leftover ranges to 10$-15$ a week.

i could get my lunch for about 5$ and a cola for 1$ so it fits. 6$ a day use isn't so bad, is it? ditching the cola gets me another 1$ stashed! weeeee.

XD takes me a year and a christmas bonus from my aunts and grandma to get about 200$, rarely passes 300$ and usually ends up being used as an upgrade like a new monitor(previously using a 16" CRT! good greef i got to switch to my 1080p LCD monitor) my desktops usually are bought by my parents though only contains the basics(and i get to assemble the rig! my only pleasure hahaha), upgrades like additional GPU and ram is up to me.
i'll be getting a laptop 2years from now, well since you can't pre-buy a laptop part by part, so i'll squeeze em to get me at least an i5 ivy with a decent GPU, well i do got my reasons for needing at least that much grunt on a portable device.

Edit:
sweet mother of god! theres an X-710BH for less than 20$ here on my area and according to reviews i've found its an X7 series mice that has insane tracking capabilities for it's price, i mean its a pure win on price/performance. durability? meh, i'll try and get this asap and play with it, XD well its cheap so hell yea!

ive done nothing but gaming with my mice and i dont have a fancy mouse pad ive never noticed any real issues and up until recently when i have gamed less i was a top competitor in cod1 and cod2 series games and hardcore raiding in wow never had any problems with the mice ive used.

Back when i was a kid i got 5 bucks a month...  :-\

Although living on my own while finishing up college still feels like i make that much. =/

I've never had any major problem with Logitech. I've had one wireless mouse (can't remember what model) an MX310 and i now own a G500, small wireless laptop mouse, and a cheap keyboard from them. Never heard anything bad from them among friends/family or online. Razer i keep hearing shit about and all their products look too much like they're trying to exclusively cater to the ricers and "OMG! GAYMEN MOUSE!!11!" demographic instead of focusing on making a quality product.

so anyone familiar with A4tech's durability? seems like the one i found(have yet to order) performs like a 40$ mice tracking wise, problems though arises with the programmable buttons, doubt i'd use it that much though.

Edit1: got the unit, it could track my small movements though still not perfect, hell it doesn't jump like the cheap mice! the size is just right, kinda feels too long though, also feels rough but solid.
Edit2: i got the programming working, you could script a macro on a button to some extent.

If you are shopping for high end might as well go for a cyborg otherwise they're all basically the same just more/less buttons and wireless/wired. And yeah the dpi is different but like I said if the dpi of a mouse would effect your gameplay at all you should just get a cyborg
