The trend towards genra-crossing in anime is producing some interesting programming, explicitly violent mahou-shoujo/musical is always a winner in my estimation.

I just hope they don't mess up the whole flashback thing... we already know she's dead, there better be a continuity after we go back to that first scene.
I almost hated Gai-Zero for that reason, and definitely would've disliked Gungrave had they messed it up.

Anyhow, this could be interesting.

I don't think the show follows the same pattern as the other show as it was a deconstruction of Mahou Shoujou genre, this is mecha armor suit girls, like Strike Witches and SkyGirls. Different Genre and there is no deconstruction hints anywhere. In Magica Madoka you could pretty well see deconstruction in episode 2 and 3, shows like Symphogear were always bound with some casualties along the way, one way or the other.

Do those spike things on the red head serve a purpose or is it just some crazy hair ornament?

The show sounds pretty BA. I was just looking for some anime that centered around music.
