I have only 2:
Learn Japanese
Learn Russian
[18:20:14] <+kurandoinu> How surprising. A conversation with gits turned to physics. That never ever happens.

How do you guys learn languages like it's just child's play?!
Parts of it I admired greatly, parts I laughed at till my sides were almost sore;
other parts I read with absolute sorrow,  because I think them utterly false and grievously mischievous...

It is quite simple.
Learn alphabet
get some lessons on accent not ot sound like an aussie in USA
learn the most important words, and go converse.
practical learning is the best way, if you have problems with some language, just go and look for someone who is good at it, possibly native, and start learning.

You missed the crucial step of learning the difficult grammar... :-\

I didn't miss it, if you just want to be able to communicate, you don't need it, fro writing though, if you use computer, use dictionary like in google firefox/chrome.

Also if you are learning from a native, they will usually tell you what things are and how to write properly.

The language thing. You tried it or you just heard a rumor?

I done it.
More or less with those steps.
I learned German and Russian this way from natives.
Learned English from this method as well.
I'm not very good with German or Russian because I was never able to practice it but I understand it more or less, even written, I am doing the same thing with Japanese, instead of learning from a native I use Anime as tutors. I know this way I will not learn Kanji and I don't really intend to do so anytime soon, I spent my time in Japan far too short to practice, but I do intend to learn it sooner or later.

I've taken up running with the dog (discovered a wonderful handsfree leash that means we can go running through the forests quite easily).

Also, I have given up alcohol for January (become a yearly routine now), and really missing a glass of wine at this very moment!
