Personally i think the culprit expected more time for him, so he would start getting captives and tie them up, or whatever, but in the finished movie there was no more time for it, perhaps it was rushed ?

I find it surprising that nobody questions cut off hand. If you want to kill somebody there are easier (and quicker and less noisy) solutions than cutting off someone's limb. I guess that the culprit probably choked the victim and then prepared the props so the room would lock itself (cutting off the hand in the procces). That would explain the rope and requested amount of blood as when you get chopped when you're already dead you do not bleed as much.

I only want Chitanda getting curious about pointless stuff and the four of them discussing it, this whole shitty movie crap is getting really damn old =(
