Plus why is Monster Hunter Portable 3rd on the list? Wasn't that a Japan only release? Plus what website did you get this info from?

I wish Monster Hunter was on PS3 in the States... :(
(and I'm sure a lot of people in Europe would of loved it)

Honestly demon's souls was better than dark souls in my opinion. They did improve on combat in dark souls but the multiplayer was laggy and almost impossible to find in dark souls whereas there was plenty of pvp and pve multiplayer in demon's souls. Guy who cut portal 2 and skyward sword for skyrim obviously has no taste, and uncharted 3 was alright. Haven't played monster hunter 3 so can't comment.

Multiplayer is still easy in Dark Souls, just not organized mp.  It's a pain in the ass to go up against or with specific people, but I've never had problems invading in various ways or assisting people.  It is quite a bit more complicated, though, since there isn't just red and blue phantoms.

And honestly, multiplayer in Demon's Souls was marred by the fact that everyone just wore light armor and roll/grass spammed.  You can't tell me that was fun.

In my experience with pvp in dark souls, 90% of the time the only way to get invaded or invade someone else was in kiln, and even then I can't count the number of times someone hit me with a backstab when they weren't even near me due to server lag. Also magic was kind of retarded in dark souls because unless it was wrath of god it was hard as hell to hit someone also due to server lag. It might be different on xbox instead of ps3 since they are not connected but I wouldn't know.

Thing about invasions is the lower limit of who you can invade is 10% of your level but upper limit is uncapped.  If you stay low level and invade slightly higher areas you'll be remarkably successful.

Also, just knowing what level to be to invade what area is very useful.

There is no single organization that does the GotY. Instead, various magazines, websites, ect. hold independent GotY competitions. These are not all run the same way. Some are selected by the editors, and some have their subscribers mail in votes. Each company picks one game that they decide is better than all the rest to get their GotY award. Some games get multiple GotY awards because more than one company picks them.

The website I use to get GotY results from all the various sources is the GotY Wiki. It's kept up to date, so this is a good method.

Monster Hunter Portable 3rd was awarded a GotY by Japan Game Awards. I believe you are right in thinking that it was a Japan only release because no other company gave them a GotY.

Is everyone forgetting that minecraft was only released this year? Otherwise my answer would be skyrim and skyward sword.

Minecraft won a GotY. I just added that and Batman: Arkham City to the list.

Really can't decide on just one, 2011 was quite a good year for games.
Here are some of my favorites (All PC), in no order
Portal 2
Bastion
Deus Ex Human Revolution
LA Noire
Skyrim
Batman Arkham City

I'd say Batman and Portal 2 tie for top place. Not going to count Minecraft as a 2011 release.
