Tasogare Otome x AmnesiaGreat animation, very rich & diverse color - dipping into the realm of psychedelic - mixed with moody & dark. Damn, some of the nicest artwork I've seen in a while. Soundtrack was Good to Excellent and very appropriate for virtually every scene. A couple of tracks will haunt you with their beauty.
The story is fantastic, with a many unique elements. One of the better ghost stories I've ever enjoyed. In fact, a very serious contender for the top five. There is a lot to feel about the characters, especially our main spirit protagonist Yuuko.
On the annoying side, some of the humor gets a bit silly for such a seriously themed story. It's not that there shouldn't be humor, but some of it was distracting slapstick when it could have been toned back to let the drama have more impact. The characters are well rounded out and develop nicely, but there are also quite a number of stereotypical tropes that were overplayed. The presence of such isn't my main complaint, so much as they are portrayed with a heavy hand when more subtlety could have made this truly amazing.
At this point, I would give it all of a solid 8/8.5 of ten, and could even be persuaded it deserved a 9.
However.
There is one final, disingenuous and insulting plot "twist" in the last minutes of the ending ... and it was quite disappointing to me. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I'm pretty fucked off at it. Really uncalled for and greatly diminishes the emotional & dramatic impact of all the reveals in the concluding episodes.
A pretty lame, immature ass-pull for which I take, at the least, a full point. So, I put the final score at 7 of 10, and wish I could unsee that part.
Still highly recommended and enjoyable, especially if you want a ghost story that is largely creepy, tragic and horrifying, yet still gets you laughing and is touching & human.
