Accel World
7/10
+ High-paced, good action.
+ Interesting, non-generic characters.
+ Good concept.
- Plot was ignored/forgotten.
- Kind of dragged on during the second half.

Could have been great if they didn't constantly go off on tangents and just stuck to the main story.

Tari Tari
6/10
+ Gorgeous animation!
+ Strong music/singing.
- Less singing than K-ON!
- Boring plot.

I watched this in hopes it'd have a good story with lots of great musical performances... but it was lacking in both areas. Even with it only being 13 episodes, I struggled to get through this. The animation was wasted on this series.

Nodame Cantibile

+as expected, the soundtrack is excellent
+Nodame is one of the most entertaining characters in anime
+Ayako Kawasumi is brilliant as the titular Nodame
+great character chemistry: sparks fly, friction, and everything you'd come to expect from a josei series
+lots and lots of charm
+ending is sweet; wraps up loose ends nicely
+art is very reminiscent of Honey and Clover

-heavily focuses on the music aspect; detracts from the plot
-cast is interesting and diverse, but there are too many supporting characters and subplots
-heavy-handed humour; rarely delivers on time

7.5/10

As great as it is however, Nodame Cantibile is ultimately a niche anime.

Did you watch just Nodame Cantabile? or also Nodame Cantabile: Paris-Hen, Nodame Canatabile: Finale. Plus there were a few OVAs.

Yes, but I expect more of the same in the sequels so I will put off on watching them for now.

Sunabouzu/Desert Punk.

Post-apocalyptic anime offsetting it's setting by a liberal dose of comedy. Somewhat similar to Trigun in that regard, though the heroes are completely different. Kanta/Sunabouzu might be considered a more realistic character for the setting, he's a lecherous, self-serving pragmatist, rather than an overly naive and optimistic character like Vash.

And as an anti-hero, I think he would have been fine, but the series offsets this all by constant slapstick pratfalls, cheesy ecchi fanservice, and basically making nothing really stick (until perhaps the last few episodes.) Nearly everything cycles or resets regardless of his outlook, so it's hard to take any of it seriously.

Interestingly, by the point where things turn darker, the protagonist role shifts to someone else, but unfortunately the series ends three episodes later, on a non-ending (probably due to running into the manga.)

If the series could have agreed on a tone I think I'd have liked it more. As is, nothing really happens until the very end, where it leaves off at a huge shift in tone and focus. It might be interesting going from that point onward, though I have my doubts it'll be animated anytime soon (if ever.)

5/10

Area 88

The more recent TV series. Haven't seen the OVA or read the manga. As my first experience with Area 88 was the SNES side scrolling shoot-em-up UN Squadron (the US name for it, it was called Area 88 elsewhere) I have to say there was a disappointing lack of gigantic enemy stealth bombers or aircraft carrying landcrawlers.

But beyond that it was a fairly decent series when focused on the pilots. I think the enemy was terribly under-characterized, but I couldn't say whether that was due to lack of time or just something the manga never went into. You really don't know who they're fighting, or what they're fighting for.

Also, despite the manga having ended almost 19 years before the anime started airing, they still waffle on the ending and leave it less than complete.

Kimi ni Todoke

OH god how sweet it was :( I really enjoyed this one.... I usually don't like Shoujo anime. There are only a handful of those that I have enjoyed. One that pops up in my mind is Kaichou wa maid-sama , which was the latest shoujo I had watched before this one. I was totally overwhelmed by the ending of it, and once I get overwhelmed I usually take a break from those types of anime (romance in particular) to, well not get totally indifferent by them the next time I watch a similar one. Kimi ni Todoke was something I had planned to watch on release, but I hate waiting for the next episode each week so I waited to watch it all within a few days. I am glad I waited (no feelings were forgotten the whole time I watched this!)

Kimi ni Todoke really made my day. I watched the first episode and found it captivating. The second one was even better. And when you think that the show will start to cool down, it takes it up yet another notch and punches you in the heart while you are still left in tears from the last episode (and yes I am the manliest man I've ever known.... But even as a boy, I am too familiar with these stories from my high school days, so this was really a kick to the groin in a good way)

By the end of the first season, I thought that the second season would bring it down a notch and just wrap it up. It did wrap it up, but totally differently from what I had imagined. I loved the way it was wrapped up. I loved the
(click to show/hide)
scenes, and those really opened up old scars. Still though none that I regret even to this day.

The ending scene left me like the emotionally scarred man I am. I will not watch another romance shoujo anime for a while. I will not think of this anime ever again as it will only hurt me once more. However, I will not forget this one nor the feelings I experienced while watching this. It made me discover yet again why I love anime as much as I do. That's how great this anime was.

The one thing I do have against this series is that... Well, it never really brought any attention to
(click to show/hide)

Durarara!! 10/10

Pros:
Perfect plot
Perfect characters
Very interesting developments both in the plot and characters
Very unique and surrealistic elements
Interesting and entertaining dialogs
Unique way of showing foreign legend in Japanese culture

+Seiyuus (All of them were the bests, plus both Nakamura Yuuichi and Kamiya Hiroshi had part in this anime <3)
+Animation was also perfect
+Music. It was as surreal as anime itself

Cons:
None at all for me

I noticed too much advertisment of other anime and manga. But this is not necessarily a bad thing, it was even quite funny. It didn't bother me even a bit, but some people don't like this kind of stuff.

Deadman Wonderland 8/10

Pros:
+Deep, twisted plot.
+Great Artwork.
+Each Episode makes you wanna watch the next one.

Cons:
-Rage moments at how corrupt shit is.
-The soundtrack could use more variety.
-Can see most of the plot twists coming as soon as the character's introduced.

When I went into it I was thinking it'd be like Battle Royale, with the collars and fight to the death for other's entertainment kinda thing. But was a bit happy and sad when it wasn't. I still kinda wish it was a slaughterfest with insane, vicious characters.

Seinen and Slice of Life cannot describe the same title, because daily life is too boring to be called a plot. Ecchi/fanservice is not plot either.

With ceiling lamps festooned with human intestines, like in Neo Ranga :)?

Quite an impressive little gem from Bones, which is, unfortunately, nearly forgotten.

Humanity Has Declined | Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita - 8.5/9 out of 10.  But, it's not really for everyone.

plus:
 - It's weird.  Quirky humor, quirky characters.
 - Artwork.  It's an animated watercolor of sorts.  Or colored pencil sketch.

minus:
 - It's weird.  Tough to get traction on the humor & characters. At least in the beginning.
 - I was put off a bit by character design for the fairies.  Too chibi & creepy, open-mouthed "smiles."
 - Soundtrack was not outstanding.  Which is not to say it wasn't good ... just not amazing.

If anything, it's similar to Arakawa Under the Bridge.  Except completely different.  The plot lacks all romance, and is set in a time & place not even remotely similar.  And still, it is a disconnected journey to stretch the mind with psychedelic non-sequitors and wonderful surprises.

Completely charming.  The episodes do not follow linear time progression, so the ending happens before the beginning, and still the tale is told in the order in which it is viewed.  Eps. 7 & 8, in particular, are nearly as frustrating as the 'endless 8' set of episodes from Haruhi ... but it does fit the perspective & personality of the fairy world very well.

It's not easy to get through the first couple of episodes, but then it gets completely abstract and mind-bending when the characters get trapped inside a fairy version of a manga for an arc.  It remains pretty interesting thereafter, and I was disappointed that it ended so soon.  It should have gone 26 episodes, especially to fill out a couple of the characters more.

Kimi ni Todoke - 10/10

Pretty much agreed.  One of my favorites.  I might shave it down to 9.5 of 10, just because 10/10 should be very rare & hard to achieve ... but Kimi ni Todoke is one of those anime that should definitely be eligible for a 10.

I added this to my comment to remind people that there is a live action movie for it, and it's just about as good as the series.  Keeping in mind how condensed it has to be for movie format, they did an excellent job with the story, and the actors/actresses were great in it.  It's a wonderful way to re-watch the story without re-watching both seasons.
I win, once again, in my never-ending struggle against victory.

Chihayafuru 7/10

Pros:
interesting story
good pace most of the time
good animation and has good feel to it
god anime for people who like game/sport anime

Cons:
at time seemed to long
I am not much of sports/game anime fan, but that's not animes fault. I doubt I will watch second season...

Nazo no Kanojo X 3.5/10

Pros:
is a bit different from usual relationship anime I've seen
half decent animation and music

Cons:
.....whats good about it? true it was not some annoying harem anime and I was able to finish it, but still it was quite a waste of time. Well anyhow - again another sissy boy anime. Make something with male characters that are not pussies 99% of time.
Beside I happened to watch HorribeSub translated and they kept on calling saliva droll. I do not know if Japanese version dis say droll instead of saliva, but as far as I saw he tried droll once and the rest was just saliva. Annoyed me as hell.
beside the amount of their saliva/droll made me think that all of them might have rabies...oh, well no wonder animation was more on the dark side, I heard that people with rabies are afraid of light or sudden laud noises...they did not have any of that as well....

Port of Return 4/10

Pros:
decent soundtrack

Cons:
annoying animation
quite nonsense story
no proper ending

Towa no Quon 8/10

just what I needed after last two animes I watched...I was giving up on anime thinking that all they make now is crap anyhow why bother....so
Pros:
good story
good animation
nice soundtrack
good variety of characters (I could even overlook Towas annoying parts of character)
wasnt to slow and was not to fast
everything was explained and there was no real lose ends story vise (I guess they left the end open to give a chance for part 2 or just to tell that idiots will always be around no matter what people do)

Cons:
em was I watching Terra e... and Cashern mix in short version and not happening in space or distant future? well they both was great anime so I don't really mind it.....

The Princess and the Pilot 7/10

Pros:
great animation
good soundtrack
really nice romance/tragedy story

Cons:
did lack a bit of a depth , but a nice watch anyhow, if it would have been even a bit longer would have gotten really boring
why did they had to ruin the end with that written stuff about the life of Fan and not knowing about Mr.Pilot? heh

Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita 7.5/10

Pros:
nice feel good anime that never mixes up its mood
funny, reminded me a bit of Arakawa Under the Bridge just had less drama and action, like it would be Arakawa Under the Bridge and Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou mix, and a good one, with loads of nice humor
refreshing soundtrack and animation that made watching this anime pleasure
greatly enjoyed the manga episodes, reminded me a bit of movies Cube

Cons:
I am so tired of all these time travel/twist/how ever you call them series, I did felt bored at these 2 eps....
nothing really memorable about this anime, just a nice way to spend time

Sakigake!! Cromartie Koukou  6/10

Pros:
funny

Cons:
gets dull towards the ending thou it is still funny, just boring kind of funny
I fill forget it tomorrow, well details already are fading

Un-Go: Inga-ron  7/10
sue me I just love Inga......

Pros:
I get to know how cool Inga was right from the beginning :D
I get to see Inga again :D
but this one still had nice story, not fan of soundtrack, but not bad

Cons:
the same as Un-Go did not have the feel of completeness and did feel a bit shallow....but Inga is amazing anyhow :D a good crazy character can save anime :D

Tsuritama 7/10

Pros:
good easy going comedy with no complicated plots
addictive soundtrack
nice animation style and choice of colors

Cons:
well if you do not like spending time by wasting time on something easy going and funny and at some points ridiculous this anime is not for you

Shuffle!     7.0/10

Pros:
-The second half is decent with unsuspected plot twist.
-Satisfying ending.
-The girls are surprisingly entertaining to watch.

Cons:
-Inconsistent animation quality.
-Weird setting.
-Dumb male lead.

Mouretsu Pirates 5/10

there is nothing really much to say about this, no cons no pros, just that the opening song killed the anime, that was not any good to begin with.  Its not that bad either if you are willing to waste on something with no real plot or purpose.

Nisemonogatari - 9.0/10.

Pros - Great character development.
Animation seemed to be slightly better than Bake's, albeit just barely. Really it's only at certain times. Bake was gorgeous but there are times in Nise that are just unbelievable.
Shinobu gets some much needed screen-time. She literally became one of my favorite characters in anything.
Gives you a real good sense of Karen-chan; who is amazing.
(click to show/hide)

Cons - Even though the series is about the sister's themselves, Karen-chan is more focused on than Tsukihi. (Although, I must say, I much prefer Karen-chan, it's just that I feel like it was unbalanced.)
Neither Hitagi nor Hanekawa are touched on, really at all. I understand it's focus was the sisters, but they show up in like... an episode each, and for not very long. Just would have been nice to see more of them.

Overall, I wasn't displeased with much. It's just a dialogue-dependent as Bake, but overall much better.
(click to show/hide)
Animation seemed to be slightly better at times, more jokes and teasing from characters about stuff. Nice little "Twists" if you could call them that. Fan-service, but not like... super overly obvious and annoying like some series.

Anyway; if you've been putting this series off like I was: Don't. It's well worth the watch.

Ugh, tried getting through Tokyo Majin but only got 10 episodes in. It seemed really boring, I couldn't connect with any of the characters, there was no comedy in the slightest to relieve the tension, and the story just lost traction way too soon. I came to the realization that I was FORCING myself to watch it, which is never a good sign.

Tokyo Majin 4/10

Pros:
Good amount of visual detail
Interesting, if simple concept.
Cool looking demons.

Cons:
One track plot direction.
Unrelatable characters.
Art style is always scraping at the back of your mind because something "feels off" with it.
No tension relief.
"When the hell do these kids sleep?"

I know its not fair to rate an anime I didn't finish, but the last time I had to FORCE myself to finish one it was Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom, and it was so boring that I had to put it into the Slice of Life category.
Seinen and Slice of Life cannot describe the same title, because daily life is too boring to be called a plot. Ecchi/fanservice is not plot either.

Haibane Renmei:

Good
- A nuanced, bittersweet mood
- An intriguing setting, filled with compelling mysteries and fascinating detail. Good framing helps the viewer to see the setting through the protagonist's eyes. You can feel the ancient mystery of the world in lots of scenes.
- Real, subtle insights about living. Difficult questions are asked, and some are answered.

Less Good
- I personally felt this was oversold by the hype. I've never seen a ratings chart on ANN that so closely resembled y = root x. I liked it, but that kind of praise had me expecting more
- Some characters don't really receive enough attention to feel real.
- I have mixed feelings about the pacing. As a slice-of-life kinda guy, I like that the series starts that way, but I felt that the timing of events afterward was somehow off. I think a few things happened to quickly, while the aftermath of those things stretched too long. Others may not share this gripe, it's a matter of personal taste.

Overall: 8/10
I've seen better, but it was definitely worth watching.

.
I've been pretty busy for a couple months now.  Not much time for recreational viewing, and I've spent a bit of time watching live action movies and TV series as a break from anime.  I know.  Heresy.  So be it.  Finally made the time for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland and also got a BD encode of Farscape, so have been working my way through all four seasons plus the movies for that.

Anyway.  The soundtrack collection for Neo Heroic Fantasia Arion just got a makeover and I've really enjoyed it for several years now, so I finally grabbed the movie off my wishlist for a watch.

 • Neo Heroic Fantasia Arion - about 5 or (at most) 6 out of 10.

plus:
 - Epic.  Clash of the Titans epic.  Jason and the Argonauts epic.  An epic tale worthy of the gods.
 - Exceptional Olde Schoole animation.  Really beautiful, glorious cell animation at the peak of its art form.
 - Joe Hisaishi scored most of the soundtrack.  One of his masterpieces.  10 of 10 for that, at least.

minus:
 - Totally fucking batshit insane.  Liberties taken with Greek mythology to the point where even the names aren't recognizable or relevant.  Do NOT watch for plot.
 - At 1 hour 24 min into the movie there is a monologue that is incomprehensible & insanely incoherent.  From there on to the end it's a batshit insane ride of what the fuck.  And, not in a Good Way.  At times it's so ludicrous that it goes full plaid, laugh out loud, underpants on head retarded.

I should be giving it about a 4 of 10, but it's not too horrible for the first 1 hour 24 min, even if it's not great ... PLOTWISE.  The animation makes it something of a must-see from the standpoint of what a monumental example of the Japanese anime artform it is.  But, literally By The Gods ... what a wretched clusterfuck of retarded it ends with.

Moyashimon, both S01 Tales of Agriculture and S02 Moyashimon Returns.  Overall, a weak 7 of 10 for both seasons as a single, contiguous story.

plus:
 - Fairly clever and unique concept, which is emphasized enough without overplaying it.
 - In general, the animation style and design is good, if not great or inspired.
 - Generally nice plot, empathetic characters, some good humor, a rare university setting, so a bit more mature than most high school settings.

minus:
 - It never really just "shines."  Always seems to be near its potential, but not quite realizing it most of the time.
 - The plot and humor is trope-laden, which takes away potential in surprise, humor, and some of the freshness from its unique core concept.
 - Given the very interesting idea of being able to see, communicate with and command microbes, it ignores vast potential within its own universe of reality and just plain misses dozens of opportunities ... often at the expense of beating another dead trope and becoming just boring.

I went into this with high hopes due to enthusiastic comments from other anime fans; was actually looking forward to this for some time now.  Perhaps my expectations were too high.  I did enjoy it and am glad I watched it.  However, the plot really did ignore many unique and fascinating possibilities that would have been vastly more interesting than some of the stupid things it did focus on.  The soundtrack was so-so.  I might download it for completeness, and it's not very large.

Oda Nobuna no Yabou | The Ambition of Oda Nobuna - sadly, about a 3 out of 10, maybe even a 2.

plus:
 - Liked the base premise of time-travel into the past, enjoyed the warring states period time frame.  For a while I thought this could be very Utawarerumono-like.
 - Animation itself was really pretty to look at, even if not unusually spectacular.
 - Actually did feel for some of the characters, liked them, and (of course) most of the girls were very easy on the eyes.
 - In the first half or so, at least, some of the humor got a few laughs ... but really dried up as the second half become outright insulting to basic intelligence.

minus:
 - Truly sucked shit for plot.  The final three or four episodes in particular really went downhill into Full Retard.
 - Evil characters are evil for the sake of being evil; shallow, one-dimensional caricatures existing for the sake of mind-numbingly shallow "plot."  To be fair, all the characters become more and more shallow as the episodes progressed.
 - The world the anime creates for itself is incredibly shallow and ignores it's own fundamental realities; highly inconsistent and just flat-out insulting.  Suddenly, half-way through, it turns out that vast, world-shaking magic is "real," after setting the stage that it's an historical sci fi/fantasy.
 - Even in the genre of harem anime, this one was terribad.  There was no credible reason at any point for why every female suddenly wet herself for the main, other than there didn't seem to be another man in all of Japan as far as the presentation went.  Seriously, the main is surrounded by literally hundreds of men who outclass him in every imaginable way.

This is one of the few anime I've ever deleted off my computer with no intention to archive or ever revisit.  It's directed at young boys with low levels of both maturity and intelligence, a sugar-coated and shallow fantasy that perpetuates a sociopathic world view about almost every type of person you can imagine, especially women.

Do yourself a favor: find a copy of Utawarerumono and watch that instead.  That is a vastly superior anime with many similar elements to this one, except it's about a 9 out of 10 for a sweeping war-strategy-political plot with elements of mystery and magic.  Or, perhaps even better, Seirei no Moribito | Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit.  Both of those would be time well-invested in fantastic plot and animation.  Oda Nobuna no Yabou is just ... wasted time.
I win, once again, in my never-ending struggle against victory.

Nadia: Secret of Blue Water 4/10 (5.5/10 if we discard my first con...)

Pros:
-decent animation
-semi decent soundtrack
- had no flash back episodes...well not the full ones

Cons:
-why did they even mentioned that it is based on Jules Verne's "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea" ? I even read the book again and the only thing they took from it was the name of the captain and the name of the ship. Well alright it was and submarine (for some reason in this anime it was also space ship), and yes, there was a Abraham Lincoln ship that attacked it, they took this name as well, and yes they did visit one of the Poles and yes they did visit sunken city of Atlantes. But it had nothing else to do with the darn Atlantis or stupid annoying kids and annoying as hell "bad" characters or anything else. I could have rated anime higher if the did not mention Verne!!! Name the ship by another name and the captain and you have a nice setting. Beside there was no unknown language on Nautilus sign and it did not come from Atlantian space ship >_<
Well at least with Count of Monte Cristo (Gankutsuou) they lmajor events similar to the book. I know it is a problem to make a decent something out of the book, but if you change everything just do not mention the book. It would have been much better to spend time on watching fishes and all that stuff that the real "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea"  had....... No I am not a Verne fan!
-well that aside - why where there so many episodes when they are surviving on an island? Had almost no use in overall story (could have shown that in one max 2 eps) and they were dull as hell. Boring and dull. The new character there was totally useless and had NO purpose at all. It was something like 7-10 ep horror of total boredom
-  why where there so many useless characters in general? King was a fun character but come on kitten size lion that mostly do nothing at all as just sit in someones lap. Or countless others that had no use or purpose but did show up more then once....
- Nadia IS ANNOYING AS HELL, annoying annoying annoying annoying x100
- and the ending is peace of crap.....
- beside all that - NEMO HATED HUMANITY AND HUMANS IN GENERAL!!!!!!!!

...Men are so necessarily mad that it would be another twist of madness not to be mad...
