I injured my wrist two summers ago and since then my wrist (which previously never complained) has been mouse hating. I first bought a wrist rest that goes on the desk to keep the wrist strait, but what I found was that I was moving my wrist instead of my arm. So my wrist was strait, but moving all over the place. I then bought a
mouse pad but it has since become almost as resistive to motion as my desk. The idea was to reduce the resistance and thus the strain on my wrist as it moves back and forth. Then I tried a
ball mouse but now my thumb is really sore and I'd rather not have multiple RSI. I also tried a wrist thingy. It goes over the hand and puts a little bean bag under the wrist. I thought it would replace my wrist rest that I am using that goes on the desk, but it is too restrictive and my hand went cold then numb/tingly. I also probably need a wrist rest for my keyboard, but don't want to spend any money on one given my bad luck with these sorts of "save your joint/tendons" items.
Any other suggestions would also be appreciated.
[edit] And "other suggestions" includes input devices that you guys have used and found helpful.
[edit2] I forgot to mention I replaced my mouse between getting the crap tastic mouse pad and the ball mouse. Additionally, I have seen teflon coated mouse pads, but I know that at least some of them have problems with the coating rubbing off.
[edit3] Also when I refer to a "ball mouse" I mean track ball mouse.
