Mouretsu Uchuu Kaizoku
AniDB | Official

Type: TV Series (26 Episodes)
Release: 08.01.2012 till ?
Genre: Novel, Shounen, Space Travel
Official Title: モーレツ宇宙海賊[パイレーツ] BODACIOUS SPACE PIRATES
Original Work: Matsumoto Noriyuki | Sasamoto Yuuichi
Animation Work: Satelight
Description: * Based on a light novel series titled Miniskirt Uchuu Pirates by Sasamoto Yuuichi with illustrations by Matsumoto Noriyuki.

Most families have a skeleton or two in the closet, but Marika is understandably shocked to learn that what her family has been hiding is a skull and crossbones! And while the revelation that her late father was a space pirate would have been earthshaking enough for most teenage girls, discovering that he was the captain of the notorious pirate ship Benten Maru will change Marika's life forever. Because, you see, pirating is a family business, and she's just inherited the position of captain. And her father's former crew is quite intent on making sure Marika accepts the job! So what's a girl to do? Well, if you're a high school student whose prior total naval experience has been working at the space yacht club, there's really only one moral dilemma that has to be resolved: are pirates allowed to wear really short mini-skirts? Get ready for intergalactic buccaneering unlike any you've ever seen before as the spaceways get broad-sided by cutting lasses, curvy knaves and the sexiest pirate's chest ever in Mouretsu Pirates!

Obviously it's going to get a thread. Satelight <3!

I enjoyed the first episode. Wasn't quite what I expected, but good nonetheless.

I've only seen the preview, but it looks like it could about fit into the Outlaw Star universe. So, because of thinking that, I have some hopes that this will be a fun show.

It's kind of a less frantic version of Sora wo Kakeru Shoujo, as far as I can tell.

I like it for it's fun factor, it hits the mark in the right places. Not overly serious, not overly ridiculious, this might get really good actually

Okay, I got to see the first episode last night. I love it! I'll bullet point my reasons.
* Not too huge a cast.
* The creators know some science behind what they are portraying.
* The details.
+ Characters are not cardboard flat. ( There are your surfaces, and then there are depths of character, we have barely scratched the surface, so perhaps they will stop giving us more character details.)
+ They obviously expect BD sales, as the background key animation cels are quite detailed. Judging by the OP and from the first scene, there will be some dramatic shots that will benefit from BD treatment.
* It is like Planetes in that it is a serious topic, but sees the humor in everyday situations. So by throwing that show in here, I have some high expectations to like this show.

I'd say this could become quite nice, for now it's fun seeing her not being a pirate yet, but who knows where this will take us off to ?

I'll be like GoGeTa this one time, and hold my breath for now, at least it's entertaining for now.

Episode 3 was pretty nice, very interesting. i sure hope this keeps up the interesting part, this episode went by really fast :)

I like the slow build-up so far. It has enough episodes to flex it out a bit and it works for me. Here's hoping we get some real action by episode 5 though.

Awesome show so far. I had been getting a little annoyed by how all new anime has been slice of life/comedy or just action. Finally some originality. (I know, there have been a few anime that were very similar to this, but not recently)

Looking forward to see what happens next. I have a feeling it will turn into something epic fairly soon.

On another note:
Ririka = Lilika ?

That would be so damn odd, I would laugh if that was true XDD

They are kind of similar... It's possible they got the idea from her.

She reminds me a lot of my mom as well, for some reason. XD

This is a pretty good one. I'm just waiting for the action to kick in.

But, that doesn't mean i'm not enjoying what i've seen so far though.

I use WhyNot?
http://whynot.doesntexist.com/projects/

I must say, I wish this series was more about pirates not being a bunch of schoolgirls that at every occasion practice their high pitched screams, but I guess that is a cliché in anime that I can oversee if the rest of the series is good.
For one thing, Tiff is not on any level what I would call a typical American.  She's not what I would consider a typical person.  I don't know any other genius geneticist anime-fan martial artist marksman model-level beauties, do you?

I'm actually really enjoying this; I didn't expect anything at all from it, and frankly, it really didn't seem like my kind of show at all, but it's turned out to be really good. I love the slow pace - it means they can go into detail with a lot more stuff, which combined with the Scifi setting, really works. It feels like they've really thought things through and created an interesting, and coherent, world. I can't wait to see where they take it.

And yeah, I'm going with WhyNot too. They're faster and better than Commie.

For me, the way the story is being laid out in this one is just great. I don't mind high school girls since this is actually pretty interesting. A bunch of girls being in a sailing club, and the club owns a ship of a size of a small frigate.

How cool is that ? not enough ? turns out it's one of the supposedly legendary ships belonging to some pirates.

On top of everything someone is trying to kidnap her, or at least monitor her, and against all odds, it's NOT pirates.

The next 2 episodes will likely have a turning point or something.

Also there was one thing that bothered me in that space exploration walk, safety anyone ?
Where the hell were safety lines ? they had safety belts so WTF ?

As for Commie, they use CR subs, and still they are later than anyone else, I'm with HS on this one.

Yeah, that annoyed me too. One of the things I like about this series is that most of the technology actually seems fairly realistic (A lot of it feels like something that might actually exist in 100 years time), but they really dropped the ball with that spacewalking stuff. Someone obviously forgot to look up how gravity works (or more specifically, the lack of gravity).

Because HS aren't using CR subs at all ¬¬

You never thought they might be wearing magnetic shoes? And why bother drawing in ropes that will look stupid and fake? Or what if they have something else to use? I'm going to assume they will perform a Flying Dutchman rescue drill sometime in the next few episodes, and you will see how then.

I do think they thought about gravity, and inertia too. How else are schoolgirls going to raise something that looks about as big as the Tokyo Tower?

We're still not in the thick of things.
