I agree completely, it just shows that you can make a plot that seems quite normal and yet it is quite interesting.

It makes me angry.

But it's a damn interesting story so far, some of the cliches are around the corner and you know they are there, and yet you can't point them out cuz they keep evading them.

So far so good

This show is quite entertaining.

Sorry but the tentacle monsters arrived.

While it is in no way up to par with Kubrick, this show also portrays space as an everyday living/working environment. They are having to think in terms of orbital mechanics while they must deal with a potentially very hostile situation. Like Planetes in some ways, but less adult as in not having to work for a living and deal with insurance salesmen.

I guess the only problem I have is with the sails. Are they purely for power production, or are we to believe that they actually propel the ship? I missed that somewhere I guess.

Afaik, there have been experiments or rather theories to propel satellites with the solar wind but from what I remember you need extraordinary big sails to propel an object of a certain size and the acceleration is pretty slow. Don't quote me for it.

Indeed there is a theory like that, but I think it's purely free power generating mechanism, I think they can save a lot of fuel just by using solar power.

Why do you think it was boring ?
Quite a lot of info given, the episode still was shorter than 20 mins

I don't mind if this keeps up as it slowly enters an actual battle with a hostile ship.

how about both? don't forget that hydrogen exists even in space (albeit very sparse) and that, while solar sails are required to be big, the fact that space is near frictionless, a solar sail ship will be always speeding up.

ok yes it's a long stretch but these sails might combine both? a solar sail that serves as a secondary propulsion system and gathers fuel for the primary propulsion at the same time?

Considering the time of the in-show era of advancement we can't say it's not possible.
Just seeing the girls traveling in zero gravity at a whim makes me laugh though as a side note, but overall quirks are bypassed by a pretty interesting plot so far.

I'm liking this show, even with the funny stuff it sometimes shows.

Me too, especially with the last episode. It was fairly suspenseful, even if there wasn't that much action. Can't wait to see what she does as a pirate.

Loved the last episode. That is the kind of action I like to see in anime/live-action space sci-fi every once in a while. Kind of like Das Boot in space; where they mostly focus on what is happening in the ship during the action, rather than just showing fancy fly-by shots and such. That style just feels suspenseful to me.

From what they did this past episode, it might be possible that the sails are not for sailing the solar wind, but as power gatherers. And the propulsion system something more along the lines of ion drive, which can go very very fast, but it takes either a lot of mass, or a lot of time to get to those ridiculous velocities. I say this because

But perhaps they were leaving something so speculative to the future, knowing that just about anything they could come up with would be wrong in some regard. This way they can say that how do we know something like this won't exist, rather than propose a solution that may prove to be completely in error. Famopus case in point, Jules Verne's bullet to the moon. Sure you can do that, but your passengers will be paste during launch.

She actually used the sails to reflect the light of the star at the enemies so they would not be able to use optical manual targeting. She even said it.

But I think some suit or casual clothes with trousers, like jerseys, would be more comfortable. However they are on a school trip now.

they push off of things with their feet? however it seems kind of weird when they "fall" leaving the bridge. than again in a weightless environment, you could do that. you could do whatever from point A to B to stop yourself but if there is nothing to stop you. somewhere in the middle you will always reach B. since there is no amount of actions one self could do in a weightless environment.

When Marika ( i think her name was) jumped out from her seat and was in the middle of the room floating in place and not being close to anything at all to touch and jump off, she returned to her seat as if she had the power to fly like a super girl or something. It shows quite often in the show, pushing off a wall in 0G is natural to propel yourself but when you have nothing to push off from it's just funny. Also you in 0G inside a ship you can only push and propel in a direction for a while, since there is air in the ship it serves as break and you can't really propel yourself once and fly through the entire ship with just one push like they do in this show.

It's not pissing me off or anything, I just find it funny

It doesn't disturb the plot, but is just funny to see the characters travel through 0G without any effort

Go Girls power

(purposely dismissing the fact that the guy on that ship does the same to make it more cool lol)
