Just a note, ALWAYS upgrade the HDD to SSD. Use external HDDs for storage. Even a laptop with an i7 will feel like an ancient C2D if the HDD bottle necks it. I have a work laptop like this right now. You can easily do this manually.
This is your home now. So take advantage of everything here, except me.

Gaming, laptop and awesome do not belong together.

It just makes me :(

Unless you're going to use it as a LAN machine, but there's better boxes you can get if you're really into that.

I'm gunna leave you anyway.

Maybe your hesitation about desktop mobility is because they are so inconvenient to carry due to their size and limited places where they can be gripped without breaking something.

To make a midtower PC mobile or conveniently "carryable", I use an Antec Lanboard.  It is basically a rectangular platform with wheels underneath it and a separate carrying strap setup with plastic handle by which you pick up the whole thing.  You can also use it without the wheels.

Still safe enough. I've seen worse.
But fair enough, "gaming" laptops can still be convenient.

I still wouldn't buy one. I'd rather invest the money in mutual funds at 12% interest and double it in 6 years. Or is my math wrong?

Why SSD over HDD (I mean it isn't really such a problem while playing - only when you install/copy/uninstall/cut/paste/delete something - while SSDs are a lot more expenisve than HDDs)?
On topic: Desktop definitely - I have an AMD Phenom x6 1090T, 8GB Ram, 1TB HDD 6Gb/s, ATI HD6790 1GB DDR5 - everything runs perfectly on it (considering the fact that I got it for around 700$ I think it's great) - while if I buy a laptop for gaming - 1)it will be really expensive if I want to be able to have an enjoyable playing experience, 2) it won't be worth it because in 1 year it will be already considered extremely old (if it hasn't melted already).

I find that my laptop works while I'm away from my desktop for smaller games that I can just mess around on to kill time.

Dungeon Defenders or Super Meat Boy for example.

I'm gunna leave you anyway.

any content that gets loaded from the HDD (new maps in fps games things like instances in wow and such) loads multiple times faster on SDD which can result in huge performance gains in places where you processor and gpu cant help

I do most of my gaming on a laptop now, but I do prefer a good desktop computer. A laptop is nice because it is portable and compact, but a full-rig is still more powerful (at the moment) and it's more comfortable to game with.
