Persona - PSX - Anyone a fan?
FlyinPenguin:
I was in the mood for a good old PS1 rpg the other day and came across a game called Persona. I was attracted to it for a couple of reasons: 1) Because it has an anime art style to it and 2) It takes place in Japan and centers around Japanese HS students (like most of the anime I watch lol). I haven't gotten very far. Just an hour or two into it.
The art style is pretty cool and the graphics for spells still look pretty good (for a PS1 game). Story seems like it might be interesting if I keep playing. The battle system seems a little off to me but that's probably because I started the game when I was drinking.
Anyway, I was just wondering who has played the game and how much you liked it? I'll admit, It hasn't been love at first sight, but I have a feeling I'm going to come to love it as I begin to progress through the game. It seems like the kind of game that has to "sink in" before you really start to appreciate what your playing, which isn't a bad thing btw. Those can be some of the best games sometimes.

My love is with Persona 3.
Nikkoru:
I've gone through Persona, Eternal Punishment, Innocent Sin, P3FES and P4. I wouldn't recommend Persona or the Persona 2 games to someone who enjoyed Persona 3 or 4 unless they also love more old-school style JRPGs with the usual degree of tedious yet somehow satisfying grinding. It's a unique experience, with quirky characters and an outrageous but fascinating plot in a modern urban setting, but it doesn't have any of the visual novel gameplay which makes P3/4 so engrossing.
I love the negotiating with the demons in particular - all the standard random encounter monsters you meet can be either fought or reasoned with for items or support - doing so can be challenging and hilarious as it breaks through the monotony of blowing them away.

I want this game so bad. It's a little expensive for a ps1 game though.

I got into the series with three, and trying to go backwards to play the first two I think I was put off by the blatant Americanization of the cast.
Not a huge fan of the the first person exploration really either (Strange Journey was a similar issue.) I'll admit I haven't really given it much time though. Hopefully get around to it eventually.
