I only smoked when I was having a really good day, because it would just make the day that much better. I recently quit due to the U.S. Navy. If you're depressed you should probably put your priorities elsewhere, and not on weed.

Actually, you're thinking of Alcohol. Alcohol is a depressant.

However, Cannabis is actually an upper.  So unless you have adverse reactions to it(I know it doesn't agree with some people), it shouldn't make you feel worse.  It's actually used as a treatment for depression in some cases. So unless your definition of "retarded" is "could make you feel better", I don't see why smoking it when you're depressed is a bad idea.

Depressants don't necessarily make you depressed (or more sad than you were already).  Depressants generally will relax a person, relieve anxiety, and possibly lead to a sense of euphoria.  Of course, different people will react differently.  I had one friend who tried weed a few times, and the only thing it did for him was make him want to sleep.  For me, alcohol is relaxing, and it does not make me feel more sad if I'm already feeling down.

When I first learned about cannabis in middle school in the 1980s, we were taught then that it had a mixture of different effects, including depressants and psychadelics.  I won't comment as to whether this information is outdated now, but that's was taught to me.

- Cannabis (I know this isnt good but I've got my hands on some and might as well huh?)
- My Little Pony

- Cannabis + My Little Pony make a good combination

My good sir, I cannot possibly tell you how difficult it is for me to breath right now. Maybe it's that time of the night where funny things seem funnier, but it hurts to breath.

I salute you, comrade.

Well just from my personal experience, whenever I smoked while feeling depressed, it would just lead me to thinking "Why the fuck am I sitting on my ass smoking pot instead of actually trying to overcome or figure out what's making me depressed", and this would just lead me into a deeper depression. Maybe it's just that I'm the type of guy that worries about things too much and tends to overthink many situations, but I just simply never saw any positive effects from smoking while I was depressed.

I never said you did, but you were acting as though the drug was not got for anyone who is depressed.  Which is bullshit, considering as it is used to treat depression.

As to what Ixarku said, considering the "war" the world has been waging against pot as well as more dangerous drugs in the past 20 years (or longer), I wouldn't trust anything school has told you about it.  What research I have done about it says it's neither a depressant nor a psychedelic.

Sorry it just bugged me to see a comment coming from someone that seemed to be completely ignoring what pot is supposed to be good for, one of the things it's used to treat! Everyone is obviously going to have different results, just like when taking anti-depressants or anti-anxiety drugs different ones work for different people.
