Ha ha, wikipedia gets things wrong quite often :D

But lest believe it.
So I have to hurt my body to make myself feel better...sounds like masochism... I rather sleep :D
Sleep also resets brain chemistry (if it not totally f**ked) and it produce more endorphin, depressed people should never go on without sleeping, they should sleep more...

...Men are so necessarily mad that it would be another twist of madness not to be mad...

I have some serious issues with depression, and depending on what stage I'm in, I either hermit into the online world and write tons of fanfiction and fill all my time (despite real life obligations) with fandom. When it's real bad though, I will marathon watch things - otherwise I'll just stare at the wall for long periods of time.

Also, I listen to the Spill Canvas, which is my favorite band.

Songs like Self Conclusion (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5EdBAdTLtc) and Black Dresses (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxVXHVlOcoE) are my usual fare when I'm at my lowest.

metro. dont be mean to people!

Anyway, it brings to mind when I was in high-school I was on this anti-depression drug because this psychiatrist recced it who I had to see for getting into a lot of fights. I never was depressed because I have always enjoyed life, but I was, well, kinda angry a lot. They never realized teenage angst =/= depression. (for the record- I am a completely (mostly) normal person now.)

So, point is that I thought cutting and hurting myself was a good idea when I was taking it. Still have a big scar on my chest from one particularly bad night. Then I read that one of the side-effects was suicidal tendencies. The point of he story is lol take this drug for depression but it might make you want to kill yourself.

If it's short-term:
Drink alcohol, smoke weed and/or watch/read stuff to distract myself and not fuel my nightmares

Only thing that works for me, sort of "reset button" that no therapy/medical drug/whatever can bring me

When it's long-term everything just goes to hell, last time I went all hikikomori style for 2 years (Constant nightmares/heavy dreams really screw you up) while actually being a social and outgoing person.
Finding work and losing weight pulled me finally through.

Sleep also resets brain chemistry (if it not totally f**ked) and it produce more endorphin, depressed people should never go on without sleeping, they should sleep more...

But sometimes it's the other way around... because of not being able do get decent sleep you get into depression. I rarely sleep more than 6 hours but have periods I wake every cycle (1 hour and half for me) or/and have constant nightmares.  When it's really bad I actually fear going to sleep knowing what is coming up thus going into a vicious circle which only can end up in serious depression while becoming a complete mental and physical mess. Add to that the incomprehension of people to the condition and you isolate yourself.

You didn't realize that most anti-depressants also can cause depression?

I have Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and though I never bought my own razor blades, I occasionally cut up until I found out I was pregnant, actually. With a baby, I don't have time for that shit, even if I feel the impulse often. (For the record though, Spill Canvas is the only 'emo' band I like. It fits my BPD perfectly, so I love them. Other emo bands make me lawl and roll my eyes. Also, to be fair, I have real life problems. I'm not like, oh no, mommy took my cell phone away, let me paint my face black and cut myself, either. I've been sexually assaulted, I've been homeless, I've been beaten, so... it's not so much emo as WTF LIFE?!)

Yeah, lulz about medication, Soryon. I was a Psych major for a while, until I realized I would never be able to listen to people tell me how much they want to die all the damn time, and one thing Psych classes reaffirmed for me - NEVER TAKING MEDICATION EVER. The damn side-effects are worse than the problem! I'll just live with my crazy, thanks.

What makes me depressed?
-The state of conformity in society. Instead of embracing the idea of individuality, it is shunned. What doesn't fit in, is ostracized.

What do I do about it?

A number of things to distract myself.
-Play Video Games (League of Legends, D2, D3 Beta, Terra Beta. Any and every of the final fantasy series)
-Read (Lots of fanfiction, and fantasy books)
-Write (Used to write lots of fanfiction)
-Anime (Of course)
-Watch TV series (A few in particular just really seem to call out to me. Particularly House (Something about his inability to find happiness, along with his dark humor), Bones, Firefly, 1000 Ways to Die
-Drink. Wouldn't consider myself an alcoholic, never felt a need to drink, just another thing I'll do occasionally when I have nothing else to do. Never in excess, and I never drink more than I intend to.
-Browse 9Gag, some of it is kinda funny
-/a/ has some decent threads every now and then
-/g/ is good for tech info as well
-I'm in a club on MyAnimeList, in which every week we all watch a certain anime then discuss and vote on it's quality. It keeps me somewhat directed in the anime I watch. And gets me thinking about the significance of what I actually watch.
-Exercise. I should do this more than I currently do.

Bunch of things like that to occupy my time, and keep myself busy. I've noticed that I'm more depressed when I have nothing to do and end up over thinking and over-analyzing stuff in my life. Keeping myself busy gets rid of a lot of that.

Add to that the incomprehension of people to the condition and you isolate yourself.

well its true, but for some reason I do like to have real bad nightmares and waking up in cold sweat, the rest of the day seems so unreal and sometimes even better then the previous one. It's like walking around in your sleep and having consctant smile on your face (more like it is in your head, but still), can get ugly, but not that often, and if it does get worst after waking up I just take some herbal stuff to make me go to sleep again :D
The only thing I actually miss from time when I was depressed all the time not only few days in the week is the nightmares, yeah I get them now now and then, but their not as bad :(  My do not really like what I see when I see people, but after nightmares I can handle them better as I am not really there :)

I can agree and disagree on this one. All the people who shows signs of depression should not get anti depressants, because they are not capable of handling the side effects, the mayor one is - making one even more depressed and suicidal, BUT there are loads of medication and loads of people who should get them! Teens should not get medication just for depression. It does more harm then good. The ones who are messed up, they should get it.
My friend had to drink heavy duty medication and it helped, yeah it did take a year or two and he was messed up from the medication, but now he is better. He was a total mess - running around with knife and beating people up, beating himself up, seeing stuff and so on. Now he is even capable of holding a job and a relationship. And no he is not a teen. The same goes for my aunt, she spent 1-2 years in and out of loony bin and drinking heavy medication. It took time, but now she can live an almost normal life, not that she ever lived a normal life, but now she can enjoy the stuff she likes to enjoy.
I doctor tried to give me schizophrenia pills just because I talk to myself and I get into heated discussions in my head. Whats wrong with that? Everybody does that. Doctors are dumb and do not know when one should and should not get medication. Its not medications fault that doctors are idiots.
True - most people do not have brain capacity or will to deal with their inner problems and understand themselves, but that's no reason to make them take pills.

dar I wrote a lot.....I was not planing on doing that >_<

I know (or rather knew) the feeling but the 'fun' isn't really there anymore when you get it for months without a break though (Yep, every single fucking night grmbl). I'm now on my fifth week of non-stop nightmares and last night was the first time it ended on a positive note (went from nightmare to romance ... and then my alarm clock went off of course ... DAMN!). I just hope this wasn't a fluke so I won't be a total wreck by the time I go to Japan on holiday (next month, finally! :D)

Uh, I usually fix these long run nightmares by getting dead wasted and smoke some weed before sleep if I just do not fall asleep while still drinking. Usually do not have any kind of dreams then.

@ metro. - mostly I do not remember them, just if they repeat again and again with no changes. I remember the feeling most of the time and some scenes, not the whole thing.
