Is 10bit encoded or source is 10bit.
Prideless:
I would like to know if 10bit video, if its done via fansubber encodes or is it because the source material is 10bit.
If the source material is 10bit how do they fansubbers get it when theres no digital release besides the broadcast? Do stations in Japan broadcast in 10bit?
Thanks for reading.

no
source is 8bit
but I think you are missing the point here of 10bit encoding
vuzedome:
For all we know the source can be anything, even analogue.
Prideless:
I understand 10bit has better compression. But how does the lightning changed through encoding?
Im still quite confused. Like Redline 10bit looks so much more different etc. How do they change the lighting like they did?
Freedom Kira:
10-bit encoding (to your initial question, 10-bit refers to encoding, not source) allows better detail retention, while also providing smaller file sizes somehow. I would not say it's better compression, but it could be. I just won't be the one to confirm that.
Changing the lighting is usually not due to the type of encoding. Sometimes a particular group would choose to brighten their version of whatever they're releasing. I might be misunderstanding what you're saying here.
