Eh, who ever had time to do this for a whole day in 'the old days', other than retired people and maybe rich slave owners??  I think it's a myth that the 'good old days' were all that good.

Mind you Hanayome believes people were better off before they had to worry their silly little heads about trivial things like evolution and science.  Living with online social media is a small price to pay for having the internet.. or the information age... or the post-industrial and industrial ages. There is a lot of good stuff that came out of that... such as internet porn, or spaceflight, or marshmallow peeps.

Personally i would prefer not having all those things. The world is more interesting when it's clouded in mystery. But hell im just one of those who believe humans are more suited in smaller communities.

Then you're one of the misguided it would seem. To want to close out the world and ignore everything is not only impractical, but also irresponsible.

Just my humble opinion.

I did mention the endless toil and early death didn't I? Women as chattel, and burning socially unwanted people at the stake for witchcraft? How about living in a theocracy where religious mysticism rules with a self-flagellating whip? How about bathing next to never? Or countless stupid wars where thousands or tens of thousands die, mostly of disease, because some aristo you've never seen who apparently rules you due to his divine right has a hard-on for some other aristo's crap?

If you want mystery in your life there is always Scooby Doo.

People had enough free time to watch gang-bangs in coliseums. :P Nowadays, it's like life is restricted to:
...

No, I am pretty sure I still see gang-bangs on a regular basis, thanks to internet porn.

I think we are in agreement on that one.  Electricity, running water -- hell, clean drinking water -- freedom of speech, air conditioning, abundant food, vaccinations, modern medical care overall, easy transportation, endless forms of electronic entertainment, the relative stability of life in a First World country -- not only are we living the good life in the modern era, we're downright spoiled.  Most of us now have the ability to meet basic survival needs with relative ease, leaving us with ample time to develop hobbies, explore our interests, and generally to develop ourselves as people.  Frankly, a lot of us (myself included) squander these opportunities, and spend too much time moaning about how horrible our lives are.  Overall, we have and take for granted luxuries that many of our ancestors couldn't even conceive of.

People who envy our ancestors of past generations are most likely taking for granted the freedom and time that we have to spend on idle discussions like this one.  The majority of us have a lot more flexibility now to walk away from something we don't like, unlike many of our ancestors who may have, for instance, lived, died, and worked on the same plot of land for their entire lives.  If anyone in human history up to this point should be envious of anyone else, everyone who lives in relative poverty or deprivation now or who has lived in that condition in centuries past should be envious of us.

That was profound.
