It all depends on the zombies. If they are idiotic like in HOTD then they should be finished in no time - I mean they follow the strongest sound - so you put some ultra-speakers in the center of town load everything with explosive play some heavy-metal through the speakers and when enough zombies get there you blow the place up...

and then the explosion attracted MOAR zombies from the cities nearby and you've just screwed your self genius, lets see you deal with millions of zombies. oh wait, you don't believe zombies could reach in millions on a country that has a quarter of a billion of citizens, ok you're definitely screwed.

In fact attracting more zombies would be great (so you could kill off even more of them)  ;D . However I don't really think that the zombies from the other town would continue walking towards the explosion - considering it's quite far and the explosion last for only a moment - they won't be able to find their way there if there's no constantly emitted sound.

Everything depends on the characteristics of the zombies in the end, as I've already said - if zombies could be controlled through sound - then they're like cattle - you could direct them wherever you want and mass-eliminate them... The redeeming feature of humanity is intelligence - so of course if we don't use that brain of ours we're screwed. Humanity has already proved that we are totally capable of wiping out whole species (these species are more intelligent than most zombies are depicted to be) so I don't think there would be a really great problem with some really dumb zombies...

right, how do you expect to blow up a million zombies with only a truck of dynamite, plus each explosion attracts more zombies, do note that a ton of dynamite could only blow up about 100meter radius of zombies(see terrorist movies that has a van loaded with explosives only blowing up a small area), oh right i wonder how'd you buy and carry tons of dynamite with the shortage of productions of it, riiiiiiiiight you magically have some.

if you'd plan to detonate a nuke, then be my guess, goodluck surviving the blast radius and the fallout, oh and the legal papers to acquire one. not even terrorists has one.

my point is, sure its great on paper, but on practice, its impossible, since having tons of explosives is illegal, nor does acquiring some is easy, plus its hard to move around with bulky explosives that could screw you over anytime because you kept attracting more zombies.

In fact I didn't say I'd set all this up  ;D - you think that any person would have the resources and power to wipe out a whole "specie" - that would be the work of the people in charge of that - the military. And if you think that people who are good enough at fighting against humans with intelligence wouldn't devise a nice plan to kill off all this brainless "cattle"... So there's no way that brainless zombies attracted to sound could do really that much - I mean it will be a shock (surprise attack) but they won't be there to last...
And don't believe everything you see in movies - there are pretty strong explosives. What's more it's not necessary to put explosives near the speakers - you could just dig gigantic holes around the speakers so the zombies would fall there. You surely know that some "cattle attracted to sound" can't do that much...

the best weapon for a ZA is a baseball bat. everything else will either dull, break, or run out of ammo. plus guns will just alert more zombies anyway so they're kinda only useful as a last resort. also bats are made to be swung at high speeds.

the best vehicle is probably a pickup truck... or really anything that can take a lot of abuse and has a high ground clearance.

as far as where to be in a ZA i'd move north and live in a cabin in the woods. three reasons: 1. low population of a rural are will mean low population of zombies. 2. if i move north come winter any zombies will freeze and possibly die (or whatever it is zombies do) and 3. If you're in the woods there'll be plenty of food and water that occur naturally. plus you have wood to burn to keep you warm in the winter.

and when it come to who is with me. I'll just pick up whoever I meet along the way. obviously i wouldn't pick anyone that i feel can take me on in a fight or has the balls to try. so i can maintain the leadership role. sure, some one that knows something about medicine would be great but, honestly planing for it is ridiculous. oh and i'd dig a moat around my cabin.

its not like they can just bomb places. there could be survivors and if the zombie outbreak is reall bad you'll need to save as many people as you can to re-populate.

the question is, how do you get a nuke after the apocalypse starts? most likely they've been stockpiled on silos thats locked forever due to key keepers turning into zombies.
plus you're trapped on your city, and the nearest silo is half a country away, so cool right?

so the only option to acquire a nuke is pre-apocalypse where you prepare, but doing so requires legal papers.

Edit: in practice, going "i'll blow zombies up" is the worst thing to do in a ZA, it attracts zombies, you're never unlimited with explosives and worst of all, they're f.cking bulky so you're trapped on one location while zombies continues to swarm over you, goodluck lasting long enough with your food supply.

^ where the heck do you find that person though?
oh and if someone replies with "pfft, who needs keys" then goodluck penetrating a mile thick concrete/steel fortress(its exaggerated, but you get the point).

Stuffed with nukes hidden all over, if not zombies, then nuclear war.

Irony, cuz in HotD they used nukes against zombies, double facepalm incoming.

/oh the sarcasm, oh the irony.]

I always wonder, aren't zombies essentially "walking carcasses"? Wouldn't maggots an all sort of bacteria take care of that?

Or you could just clean the city with your little tank which you surely keep in the backyard in case of a ZA. I mean all the zombies shit is really exaggerated - you want to clean the streets of zombies - pass through them with a tank (if the zombies are attracted to sound you can add a speaker on the tank) - it would be totally like mashing up potatoes  :P. There would be only a problem if the zombies are not attracted to you - if you have a way to attract them - you've already finished half of the work...

wonder if you could run over a billion zombie with just one tank, betting it'll take years to accomplish.

oh and governments cant just launch nukes just like that, nor can the military, its like saying "newyork is infested with zombies! screw survivors and nuke the d.mn city and make it un-inhabitable for decades!" and to top it off "holy shit! mutant zombies! ruuuun!".

just look at racoon city, nuked and all and still zombies crawls.

That was on the joke side, but the military has plenty of tanks, so it's always dumbfounding seeing some soldiers depicted shooting at zombies  :P.

yeah but how are you going to power it? it'll end up losing power at some point. then what? you just sit in complete darkness? It's not like you have to hold up against any sort of intelligent army. You don't need that well fortified of a building. I think the key is long term survival. You don't know when or if the world will turn to normal again. So finding a place that has plenty of food around and not a lot of zombies would be best.
