^ thats why going hermit mode is the best solution when a ZA occurs, i mean, sure if zombies starts swarming your current place then just flee.

whats better is there is old missile silos and shit in upstate newyork and around the country that are still concrete fortresses that you could take refuge in

yeah but how are you going to power it? it'll end up losing power at some point. then what? you just sit in complete darkness? It's not like you have to hold up against any sort of intelligent army. You don't need that well fortified of a building. I think the key is long term survival. You don't know when or if the world will turn to normal again. So finding a place that has plenty of food around and not a lot of zombies would be best.
you dont neeed to power it a lot of these places are made to run with or without power as a facility. These are old buildings so they didnt have all the fancy computer shit just thick walls underground. They are great since it provides secure shelter, and some are literally just right next to tons of wilderness in the middle of nothing.
The ability to store food without fears of animals or other people attacking you is a huge plus

^ theres 3things thats problematic about storing foods, which are how long will the food stay edible, how much food do you need to store and how bulky it is. well the last problem is ignorable if you got a space thats big enough to store it.

i already am practicing storing foods as canned foods, and quarterly i end up having 2-4 spoiled cans which have passed their expiration date.

as long as its not contagious/infectious (whatever term it is, can't remember which goes for which) it shouldn't be a problem. but i've got to say, it gave the chance for this prank,

groups of grown men running away from one guy. funniest shit i've seen in my life. 2:30 guy even runs back to get his shoes!

large portion of canned goods are good even after the expiration they just can taste a lil funny after that.

The concept of MRE type meals is also viable

i just realized, if you're  storing food why not grow them instead? fresh and pretty much unlimited, mushroom comes to mind when its speed, space and ease is needed.
