Time Slip: Future/Past
« on: February 06, 2012, 12:04:08 PM »
Just as what the poll asks - if you were given a ticket to time-slip, would you go to the future or the past? Which era would you want to be in? Why would you want that?

Those who want to pick the "present", "still", or "no choices" are not interesting. :P Please think about this for a moment choose either.

past, 1990s, because its the decade with the most technological advancement and i would have known what the market's movement and that would be insanely advantageous for participating in stocks market.

Edit: i could turn myself into a prophet and get it to a nationwide news, damn i'd be so rich.

Past. No overpopulation. Not mind-broken by studies. Less stupidity.... Much more free time.
Parts of it I admired greatly, parts I laughed at till my sides were almost sore;
other parts I read with absolute sorrow,  because I think them utterly false and grievously mischievous...

The future - because, well, would you rather watch reruns or new programs?

Although I enjoy World History class and have an entire list of favorite historical periods and figures and would prefer going to the past, I would choose future simply because there are no books with near-accurate accounts on such.

Will rise but the overall change would be a reduction since I'd go to a time before Evolutionists sprang up. The huge drop in the number of such idiots would keep the change as "Less stupidity" even with me counted.

Past. I can't decide what period I'd pick though. There are quite a few I'd like to be in, but probably these are my top.
~1200BC Egypt
~1000BC India
~500BC Greece
15th century western Europe
1950s USA

I'd go to the past, with no particular time period in mind. I like that things were simpler and more challenging back then and think that life would be more exciting that way (like say I went back in time and became an apprentice for a blacksmith, I think that'd be cool  8)).

Past, to the time when magic existed. I don't need to explain the reason I guess.

You do realize that you could probably predict only a few things in the very beginning of the time frame of your choice? After that, due to your presence and what magnitude the effect of the things you had done were; everything would be different.

Future for me. I know exactly what to expect in the past, but the future holds so much more than I can imagine.

Future... far, far ahead of the present..

Two general scenarios, either:

1) we're all fucked because we got invaded by aliens, or a nuclear war finally happened, or [insert some random apocalyptic conspiracy]

or

2) perfect world 'cause humans finally figured out the answer to questions like what is the meaning of life, what is happiness, [insert some random hippie question]

The future, without a doubt.  I want to see if we finally figure out all those things that sci-fi has been promising me for decades.
It took an hour to write; I figured it'd take an hour to read.

Future.  Why would you want to go to the past?  There would be nothing to look forward since you know what happens next.  Not only that, but things could only be shittier.  No internet, worse music, rampant racism, courts run by the Churches.

Fuck that shit.

Future.

While the past would be interesting, lots of stuff I know I'd hate about it. And the future...well the future is the future.

I'm gunna leave you anyway.

I don't understand such nostolgia personally, I think it's because historical pedagogy tends to romanticize the past and slide around the fact that human history in general is a charnal house filled with misery and stupidity.

/agree, the past is full of a bunch of misery and strife.
l'd rather take my free pass to the somewhat distant future, 1000+ years should be good.
