hiya all...
like the title says, im looking for music player for windows...

i already use Winamp and uninstall it because just found out that it can go online through its browser...
already try to block with firewall, and set 'not connected to internet' doesnt give anything...

so, im hoping that there's mp that just play music and not go online/ have feature to go online...

Foobar2000. looks plain, but it works, can convert music and has addons. will not go online for anything ever, unless you have the freedb addon and use it to tag your music. (not recommended really, online tagging regardless of service, i mean)

which windows? if its 7 then i'm using windows sidebar gadgets, to be more precise, the one bundled with X-Fi software called SB jukebox, one issue though is that it seems to not remember it's former settings every time i reboot.

why not use windows media player?

I've always used the minimal, lite install of WinAmp. During install I always disable/deselect all the online garbage and strip it to music player only, no skins, no other media, etc. For other media I have other tools (pix: IrfanView, video: MPC-HC).

I have no issues with my WinAmp installs ... they never go online, they never try, they have no need. They exist to play what is on my hard drives and obey me because I Am t3h kami-sma over them.

I lieks FooBar also. A lot. Takes some adjustment and learning, but haz powerful toolkit. Mostly I use it to populate metadata when ripping FLACs, and great for converting from lossless to *.MP3s when needed.

fb2k for life. One of the few apps I use wine for (although one always prays for a linux-native version someday…)

I use Clementine. It's by far the best player I've used, and I've used quite a few - including Winamp and Foobar2000. It's fairly minimalistic, but can play loads of file types, and has the best playlist and music library features of any player I've used (especially for dealing with compilation albums, or other albums by multiple artists). Since it's open-source and pretty lightweight, it's worth giving it a try, and I definitely recommend it. There's a Linux version too (it's originally a Linux app).

Never Used Clemantine, but I have used Foobar2000. I like Foobar2000.

[edit] I'd also like to add that the old Amarok was the best media player ever.

why not use windows media player?

pretty sure it's memory issues. If not, he'd be using itunes instead of winamp.

Then you'll like clementine, because it is literally pretty much just the old Amarok, on Windows (as well as Linux). A few new features, but really, nothing drastic has changed. It's great.

as far as i remember, arent mediamonkey have ability/feature to go online?

wmp works great as a mp3 player, just use it in it's skin mode, though WMP12 has a "now playing" mode thats really compact and neat but you got to shrink it to my example's size XD.

If you use WMP so much, can you tell of an easy way to stop it going online? No, ticking everything in that regards in its options isn't going to cut it. Only way I've managed that feat is block every single domain it tries to connect to in the hosts file...

Reason I won't allow it online is (or at least was previously) wmp's nasty habit of sometimes changing/adding metatags in files, not necessarily with consent... I still don't trust my music files with it unless they are in read-only mode.

^ if its just blocking WMP on accessing the net then you can use the firewall to block WMP, though ticking the boxes should be working >,> works for me is what i'm saying, ticking the boxes on library and privacy.

im already installed winamp last night and follow what you said; just select music player-related...not working...
in the end, i block winamp with comodo firewall...

the secret, if you ask me, is to use an older version of winamp. (you know, the last version of the old school gui winamp, forgot the version number)

also, you stuck with winamp instead of going for foobar? is it too ugly for you or what?
