Final Fantasy XIV What to do ?
« on: February 14, 2012, 10:39:41 AM »
Started playing yesterday, and well it seems like a solid game. Thing is it's so much stuff and i can't exactly figure out what to do.

Should i level up several jobs? The switch system seems kinda weird to me.

I started in Gridania as an armorer, and well i can't figure out how i should level besides through leves and as they are limited i guess there is other stuff i should do ?

So basically i suddenly turned into a bigger noob than ever, and is looking for some directions.

I had a lot of faith in XIV before it launched. Then, I was lucky enough to get in the beta and lost all faith in the game. It was simply gorgeous, had a good premise, but I swear there was no direction involved. You basically were dropped in to figure out everything for yourself. The questing felt wonky, the class switching was odd, and it just had no flow to it. I canceled my preorder after a couple of "updates" that didn't address any of the major problems that were widely reported.

It was a shame, too. I really wanted to like it.

So I remember a while back the guy in charge resigned because it was so bad and they made it f2p while they "fixed the game" is this still true?

It was f2p since it sucked so bad at first. Now that they have fixed it, they are charging for it. But is it still bad? I don't know about that.

I don't know if it's bad or good in terms of gameplay, can't tell because i don't know what there is to do and how to do it. It does suck real bad when it comes to new players because there is no real explanation of things.

Also i guess it's worth mentioning that not only does one have to pay about 7 euros a month for well "service fee" then 3 euros for every character you want to own so, that's pretty lame i must say.

I had a good chunk of gamestop gift cards just sitting around so I picked up a copy of it. I only got an hour or so into it last night but it's considerably better than it was before.

It's not that it doesn't tell you where to go or what to do - it's just not as IN YOUR FACE as the mainstream MMORPGs. You have a journal and the quest text will tell you what to do. Really, the tricky thing for most players is getting over terminology. Understanding that guildleves are quests and things of that nature.

Most of what I hated about it at launch has reportedly been resolved. I'll have more information next week after I get a weekend of it in.

For the people that are used to current MMOs it still will look broken.
But I think they tried to give a multiplayer game a single player feel to it when it comes to questing.

The Director resigned because it was a "political move" from Square-enix, someone had to be blamed, thing is, with so many running projects that S-E has constantly their teams on FFXIV simply didn't receive the complete script to follow the story through the game, now that the majority of the game engine is complete it will take a longer while to fix it with story to follow with.

Personally I think that game shouldn't have left the beta stage yet, but you do get the feeling of being literally dropped in the middle of nowhere with only basic supplies and go figure.

First thing I do in games is checking all the menu's and buttons to see what the hell the game has, it's a habit of mine.
Everything else is secondary.

Journal is easy to navigate but you need to scroll through more stuff like map and everything else, so as far as Single player game would go, this would be a fairly successful game in it's early beta stages or even alpha, but there really is no justification to charge money at this point yet. Hence I dropped the game.

Like you said, the game had potential, but the most major problem was that Square-enix made a fuss about creating a whole new world for a single title, when they knew very well that everyone loves Ivalice.

S-E does things in their own weird way, I'm sure they have a plan for it, but it's more like a baby playing toys, building something with blocks to see what happens. They pretty much fail in the past few years quite a lot.
