Of course, I'm totally retarded. How silly of me to think otherwise. My aspirations to be social are preposterous, and by doing so I'm sacrificing my privacy and making a fool of myself.
I think you're confusing Facebook with some other site, where you add people you don't actually have an contact with. I'm sure that if you desire, or even need, complete and total anonymity, I daresay that you've failed already. Had one the desire, finding you wouldn't be that difficult. It's the world we live in, and if you do not wish to be found, I suggest you limit your digital foot print.
Anonymity is something of a 1/r^2 graph, while you may get so close to absolute zero, where no one knows you, it is impossible. If you want that, and to maintain an online presence, such as torrenting, talking or gaming, then I suggest you come to the realization that you can be found.
I no not disagree with you, online is no substitute for real, live, human interactions. Meeting, or talking to someone, through any digital medium, no matter how close to real it can get, is never the same. There are so many things that make face-to-face contact special.
As a moron, I'm simply saying that getting in touch with people through some ways, and sharing your life with the people you care about, from a great distance, is something that Facebook allows better then many other networking sites. Are people that share what they had for breakfast every morning taking it to far? Quite so, and it's rather annoying, but then again, they tend to be in real life if they have to validate themselves by sharing their every feeling. But networking is such a valuable career tool to pass it up is of questionable judgement.
Judge me, and my alleged fake friendships, all you like. Just know that broad assumptions usually incorrect.
