Whats with morbid fb posts?
« on: February 22, 2012, 04:25:35 AM »
Lately so many people in facebook keep spaming this pictures of . . .seriously morbid stuff!

like a baby with some deformation, or people with horrible diseases. . .stuff that is straight up wrong. . .

I'm sure you've come across some of these pictures, now my question. . .most of them say "for every like, 1 dollar will be donated to (insert deformed/diseased person)"

do you think that is actually true? like at least to some extent? or are they new forms of marketing morbidity. . .

I seriously doubt that someone is going to donate. . .so I ask of you dont continue those horrible chains. . .they are unhealthy

It just shows how stupid people got.

Post picture of patient with extreme case of cancer - Ah, you've just helped to cure cancer!
Post picture of deformed baby - You have just helped to avoid genetic mutations!
...

It helps about as much as posting pictures of your broken leg. It won't really heal it. But hey, I guess those guys can check the box "helped to fight diseases" in their diary. What is sad is the part where some people really believe posting picture WILL heal it. Worldwide.

My favourite one is where they say 1 like = 1 prayer.

(click to show/hide)

I blame all the 13 year old girls and tumblr hipsters on their macbooks.... Which just so happen to be the 13 year old girls.

Yeah, or people taking advantage of 13 year old girls. I don't understand people though.

And tumblring is for girls that are like 15-18 that have a midrange camera they keep on auto and then sepia the picture.
Then call themselves artistic.

I'm gunna leave you anyway.

Were people ever smart? Before it was email spam -

Forward this email, for every email forwarded Microsoft agreed to pay 1$ to whatever retarded cause....

And still there were people who believed that shit.

True enough.
But FB sure makes the stupidity more public and visible. Plus, seems to be getting more popular.

I just can't decide whether the people just forward any shit they find or do they actually believe it helps?

And yeah, lot of artists today, since requiments are digital camera (at least phone) and the amazing abilty to apply filters and helvetica font, heh.

It's people trying awkwardly to find a way to make money, not a bad thing, off a free source,in this case, Facebook. To connect to that large a number of people, regardless of socioeconomic standing, is invaluable.

FB can be used as a decent news aggregation site (getting news from community managers through Facebook pages) though.

I've always found the only use of Twitter was the get bits of information or links out to HUGE amounts of people very efficiently. It's implemented questionably, and thus ends up being a hub of gossip and conversation.

In it's purest form, I think it could be useful for corporations to share information with either share holders or workers or such. Even as like...I dunno a TV station sharing it's schedule or reasons for black out.

In mexico city they peak twitter usage on friday/sat nights when everyone tweets police checkpoints for alcohol breath. . .suddenly everyone knows how to avoid them :D

I actually got mad at people posting the stuff and then everyone else joined in; even people who previously supported it. It's just people following the masses. They either follow it because everyone else is, or don't say anything until somebody else does. It's like no one has their own opinions anymore, they just follow.

Talking with people about anime?

Or talking to people period while on house arrest ;)

I only have people on fb I actually know or close online friends, about 60 on my list.

People with 1000 fb friends are crazy.

I also like fb for following authors/websites/mangaka/seiyuu ect that I like. Im into economics and libertarianism so I get a lot of updates from personalitys and organizations I have favorited, great for keeping up with current events and such without having to watch the mindless drivel that is mainstream news.

Well, it can be a great social networking tool if people would use it properly. Instead, its just a bunch of idiots and teenage girls. While I do have a FB account, I hardly ever even use it anymore except for when I am drunk and wanna talk shit about some of the more inane posts I see.

Well that, and the extended family tend to organize get-togethers via FB so I use it for that too.

And GoGeTa, about the post topic; I can not say that I have seen any morbid FaceBook posts, but I do see plenty of them that make me want to kill myself.

for every like 1 dollar will be donated to (insert something here)"
or
"look at the way this guy died, like to support no-violence in (insert place here)"

etc. . .

I use FB mainly to check up on RL friends & family that I don't see a lot, and as a replacement for emailing the same.  I have a small handful of people friended who I either met once or twice, or are people that I don't otherwise know well, e.g. friends of friends, people who remember me from high school 20+ years ago, etc.

I have a few rules about FB:  I don't repost jack shit; I don't spout someone else's idiotic pop culture wisdom in picture form and then claim to identify with it; I don't get in arguments with the people who do post idiotic pop culture wisdom there; and I block all the damn FB games.  While it's occasionally amusing to see a meme here and there, I never post them.  A few authors & bands I like post on FB every once in a while, so I find some mild interest there.

What I share there is mainly a blurb once in a while about whatever boring mundane thing is going on my life at the moment, so that people I don't talk to regularly will know I'm still alive.
It took an hour to write; I figured it'd take an hour to read.
