Accents are cool. People say I sound like a russian who learned english in Germany. Which is most likely caused by the fact I had to learn three languages as a very small kid. Strangely enough, neither of those were russion or german.
PS. Australians are the best. You don't know what fun is, untill you spend an evening by talking with typical australian.

Southern accents are perfectly acceptable, sexy, even, if they are coming from a tall hot blonde woman and wearing short shorts and a crop top, exposing her midriff. It's all about context!
