3DS Or Vita
« on: February 25, 2012, 02:17:40 AM »
What is more worth buying Playstation Vita or Nintendo 3DS?
Vita is good but it doesn't have many titles yet. Many game dev's have moved there major projects to 3DS cause of the Vita being exaggerated. I'm not sure on what to think but I do know the Vita is very powerful but also its life is no better then the 3DS. Vita has no backwards compac with the UMD so that is stressing. pro's and cons for these 2 systems are a big battle with gamers. Ive herd about the PS4 and I think sony should back it up cuz the PS3 isnt even doing as well as it should yet plus its not using its full power yet. nintendo's WiiU is a dumb idea if anything its just them trying to port features over to the wii that should have been there to begin with. Im a person that dosnt not like carrying 100 handhelds. I personally only bought 3Ds for resident evil revalations. I own about 35 psp games and I'm not about to spend 200$ just to get them digital on a vita

I was originally definitely going to get a Vita because I had the DS this generation (but no psp) and I wanted the option for the psp library PLUS the vita one.

The lack for backwards compatibility, the ridiculous cost of memory storage for the vita, and the fact that Etrian Odyssey 4 is 3ds exclusive has me reconsidering.

Exactly there allot of stuff to consider with them. I want the vita for the remakes of games on the major consoles and if they remake Ratchet and Clank on it

Frankly, I'd say the best course of action is to wait a bit and see how the prices fluctuate and what games will be where. Plus as I know both companies, there will be upgraded version of the handheld for lower price than the original in about 3-6 months, heh.

But the compatibility is ridiculous, if my PSP wasn't stolen, along with the games and bike, I would be positively pissed off.

I have both of these and still at this stage i can not pick between the two.
Both systems still lack a wide range of games but have big games coming out in the near future

I bought myself a 3DS when it was $150 at Gamestop. Bought a Nyko power pack and 16 GB memory card for another $27. The 3DS works so much better as a MOBILE gaming platform that the Vita just misses completely. Even the games that have the Circle Pad Pro work great WITHOUT the accessory! Both MGS and RE play wonderfully and I have a blast playing on the go. When Sony said the Vita will be more about mobile gaming, I though GREAT! Lets see it! Then it just turned out to be a PSP with an addition joystick and ended up being bigger, wider, AND FATTER!

The point isn't to get the PS Vita BIGGER! The Vita has to compete with smart phones and making it bigger only makes smart phones (and the 3DS) look like the more pocketable option. Sure, the PS Vita (with both stock batteries) is technically better in every way than the 3DS. BUT, once I replaced the battery of my 3DS with the Nyko battery, I easily have 8-10 hours of play per charge. Not only that, but I bought a 16 GB memory card for $17 (the 3DS comes with a 2 GB out of the box) while the PS Vita has a 16 GB memory card you HAVE to buy for $60. That's well over 3 times the price! And with a battery I cannot replace with a bigger one (because of the touch screen back!) even though the PSP COULD have the battery replaced. Not only all of those reasons, but to stop playing, I just close the clam shell and pocket the 3DS... takes two seconds (if that).

So my suggestion? Go with the 3DS for sure. It currently has more games (with more being developed for it since some companies switched development), you can get a better battery for it (and much cheaper memory), it's easier to use as a mobile gaming platform, the virtual console lets you keep your classics, AND it will have Pokemon on it soon (announcement hopefully soon).

I picked up the zelda 3ds when it came out and the real resident evil game recently.  I don't play a ton on handhelds, but the price was fair and 3rd party developers seem to be on board as well.  I feel the vita is to costly when you look at the full cost after adding in a decent size flash card.

Sony is stupid and only hurting themselves with their proprietary flash cards that are like 3-4x the cost.

I'm a huge Nintendo fan, just because I'm nostalgic as all hell when it comes to games. I have way toooo many virtual console games. Like...seriously. Depressing amount.

But I'd go for the 3DS, no backwards compatibility is just a dick move.

Ray: Sony and Microsoft are in a space race so to say, who can outspend the other. It worked for solving the cold war, maybe it'll work here too.

I'm gunna leave you anyway.

The cold war had both countries' citizens in constant fear of the other country... M$ versus $ony will only end with $600 consoles again with $70 game pricetags! The big excuse? "We have to pay our artists more money cause of the graphics!" Yeah, I have not seen ONE gaming developer pay their game artists more than $80K or $90K (if that) and the only other piece of hard development might be the engine or complex code with physics and such. If games go to $70 a pop, I'll stick to my 3DS with it's $40 games.

Off-topic: PS4 is "rumored" to have AMD technology. Didn't the original Xbox have Nvidia and the PS3 have Nvidia? Doesn't the current Xbox 360 have an ATI graphics card that started the whole Unified pixel pipelines that got implemented into PC hardware (if it was the other way around, please correct me? They both started coming out around the same time)?

On topic: Get a 3DS. You can try a PS Vita if you want, but don't be surprised if there aren't many games for it this time next year!

PS4 has been confirmed as well as the Xbox 720 but XBox 720's deadline is in 2015, PS4 unknown. But in all I think XBox 720 will win hands down cuz microsoft has pulled through like nintendo.

The PS3 is just as successful as the 360 just not in the states.  Sony has a better first party as well, they just need to get better 3rd party exclusives.  And whats wrong with AMD making the Gfx chip.  They make a better chip then nvidia, but their drivers are not that good which I would guess is a non issue in game consoles.

It's not really Sony's fault, but actually the game developers, they aren't taking advantage of it because they coded everything on one of the weaker platforms, xbox anyone?, and hired someone else to port it over to the PS3.

Trust me... they do. It's hard to utilize 256 MBs of RAM and 256 MBs of VRAM. Lets estimate that 25 MBs is dedicated to the OS, that still leaves 230~ MBs of RAM to use in a game. The last time 256 MBs was "good enough" for a computer was back in 1997.

MORE RAM Sony! MORE RAM Microsoft! RAM is cheap! You can have a supercomputer crawl along at a Dell's pace if it doesn't have enough RAM!

As for the PS Vita versus 3DS in terms of RAM? PS Vita has more! (and to remind people to stay on topic ;))

If Sony didn't botch up the PSP Go which was suppose to be the transfer intermediary from UMD's to the digital format then we wouldn't have this issue. Not to mention $250 price tag on a rehashed console. It's like making the PS3 Slim $500 on launch day.  :-\

Had they fully supported the PSP Go and discontinued UMD's as planned while cutting the prices on memory sticks, they would have set the Vita for success years ago.

At this current time I would suggest going with the 3DS solely because it has more games out and wait to see if Sony learned anything from the PSP. I was also appalled by how huge it was when I first saw it yesterday.

lol Iv herd allot about the 720 and I think microsoft is ready for this I just wish all the old xbox games would be compatible instead of a half ass list they did with 360.
