Just want to throw out there that sales figures mean absolutely nothing. After all the latest Call of Duty broke most sales records, yet it's another shitty repackaging of the previous COD games.

Just wondering: those of you who actually play with those small devices, wouldn't it make sense for you to buy a smartphone instead? Lots of games for those after all.
Depends what types of games you want to play.  If by game you mean chop the fruit or what not, no.  There's very few "real" games on smartphones.

PS Vita is doing well. What makes you think it's not doing well? Because it's not beating it's competitors? It's all about the money. Also, you need to get yourself some new tits. Manly tits. You've already exploded your own.

You're welcome.

It's all about the money? Smartphones sell for $100-$200 in the USA (with a plan obviously), aren't those products a competitor? Tablets sell for $200-$700 and aren't they in the same league as the PS Vita as a mobile gaming platform? And yes, even the 3DS is a competitor. Compared to all those competitors, the PS Vita hardly sparks major excitement. Yes, Sony looks like it makes money off the Vita, but paying at least $250 + overpriced memory cards is killer for the consumer. Where does the Vita fit in (the same goes for the 3DS)? Technically speaking, the PS Vita is the coolest fucking piece of technology... yet compared to it's competition (besides tablets), it's hardly pocketable. Beyond that, the Vita (AND the 3DS for that matter) hardly innovated on their older mobile platforms. On the outside, the PS Vita is just a PSP with an extra thump stick and has a touchscreen and touch panel.

On the flip side, the 3DS is less of an innovation off the DS. The original brick DS was great and the 3DS isn't much different besides the new thumpstick and a SLIGHTLY bigger screen. Much beyond that, the 3D is very cool and it's no where near as powerful as the PS Vita (so games will look worse, especially on a smaller resolution screen). Another good point is that the 3DS was the same price as a Wifi only model. Once the price dropped, then the console got appealing to more people and it honestly creamed in the holiday months.

So what makes me think it hasn't done well? Because Sony doesn't tell us the break down numbers. Because we've been wined and dined and sexed up by the mobile phone industry when it comes to mobile gaming (some of the games they have are great, and most are never more than $1). So why don't I side with smartphones? It's because the DS was a great system and it had huge selection of games. I'm thinking that the 3DS will have the same continued sucess and the PS Vita will go down the road of the Dreamcast (it will be loved dearly, but won't be missed by the majority of consumers). Honestly, if you had to ask me one or two reasons why I don't even want a Vita is because of the battery life (and the inability to replace it with a bigger one) and the sheer size of it.

Or this talk could be all for nothing and Sony goes on to drop the price and they sell tons of units during the 2012 holiday at a nice $180 price point. The only thing the PS Vita needs in the next 9 months is a killer game. Honestly, I'm waiting for Pokemon 3DS and Advance Wars. :D

BTW, stop talking about tits. If you think it makes you cooler, it really doesn't.

Here's an odd thought I had earlier.  I consider the better graphics on the vita to be a factor to AVOID it.  With handhelds, the games I like to play are old-schoolish rpgs and strategy games.

The improved graphics will only encourage developers to stop using sprites that have to be artistically appealing and encourage them to go with ugly-ass 3d blocks.

Furthermore, it encourages the creation of types of games that are better suited for a console or pc.

The limitations of the DS, for example, worked in its favor.  The rpgs and strategy games on that platform opted for dedicated 2d-sprites because they couldn't render 3d without looking like ass.

I'm all about those horsepowers and graphics. PS3 graphics in your hands? Sure, why not. I'll take that.

Well, I've had a DSi for a while now, and have just purchased a PSP at a decent sale price - and I'm not an early adopter when it comes to game consoles.

Though if I had to decide I would certainly pick the Vita. Sony and Nintendo both produce outstanding products generally, but as I've said elsewhere, 3D literally gives me a head ache. I know you can turn it off, but it's a large chunk of the base value of the system, so it's really the deciding factor. Which is a shame, I love the simple yet elegant gaming experience available on the DS.

Not to mention it kills half the pixels so stuff definitely looks more "pixelated" then when in 3D. I'm not denying that the Vita has a way better screen.

People tend to get overly anal and contrary regarding game consoles  - I've had fun with every system I've owned after some grace period to get comfortable with it.  I still enjoy playing Q-Bert, Frogger, and Pac-Man on my Atari damn it.

Spend an hour of pleasant unthinking gaming on it and worries just fade away, whichever system you choose to buy.

More like you gotta swallow that tumor you call your "pride" for once...  ::)

On a related note: The 3DS is now a faster selling console than the original DS (with some other cool stats!)! By the stats, the DS sold 2.3 million units in it's first year and the 3DS has sold over 4.5 million in it's first year.

Nintendo did a good job getting more people into gaming, especially with the DS - so it's not surprising. My mother even owns one, and she's utterly terrible at gaming.

Actually I think I'll buy a 3DS for her birthday, they have Professor Layton and Ace Attorney games coming out, so she'll be happy.

Both. I already own a 3DS and I'm probably getting a Vita next year. Which one I prefer by then will be largely determined by the games available, I'm not the kind of casual pseudo-gamer who gets off on specs.

TMRN, the only significant foolish "pride" you've stated is only coming out of your ass.

That's a good choice - they should have a list of unique games by the beginning of next year.

Ok, moving out of crazy drum master's little fantasy world and into real people world. :)

I found this pretty cool too:
(click to show/hide)

Oh and don't go on a tantrum titsujin... This was off of the PS Vita's own facebook page. It's pretty interesting about the breakdown of it all. Clearly Europe likes the Playstation/Sony brand over Nintendo (and this shows in the way Nintendo tries to get Europe timed or exclusive game releases). So the Vita does better in Europe for first week sales, so does this mean more European gaming developers will start making games for the Vita?

For one thing, a Battlefield like game on Vita would be kick ass. If only it was 24 players online XD.

I humbly don't care.

--------------------------

I also did a little more digging for OP, but found something strange...
3DS Metacritic review
PS Vita Metacritic review

Both have all the critics reviews, they are basically all the same! 9 positives, 27-29 good, and 4-6 mixed reviews. So honestly, if you like one or more of the launch titles, wait until August/September when the price will drop before the Christmas season. Hell, if there are any good games for it, I'm sure sales of the PS Vita will skyrocket.

Final conclusion: Wait for price drop.

And if I can still tempt you with the 3DS, this new teaser site released for an unannounced 3DS title that is being made by Capcom, Bandai Namco Game, and Sega. Something tells me that it will either be those three company's version of Super Smash Brothers OR it can be something completely different.

I've never seen something so cryptic and vague outside of politics.

What about that tells you anything?

I mean, they are making the company logos to be like DNA or chromosomes, which they will combine together to make something amazingly big for the 3DS. To be honest, I think it's a completely new franchise/game  because I can't think of one unifying game or game type that puts all those companies together... Unless it's like Street Figher x Gundam x Virtua Fighter... XD
