New Sim City?

Sounds plausible to me. Gah, it's been so long since I've simmed a city. I'd buy it for sure.

If they are making new SimCity, I hope it will be more like SimCity 3000 rather than SimCity 4.

What a dreadful game Sim 4 was.... Sim 3000 all the way! I heard rumors (taken with a grain of salt) that the game will be set in the future and will be like Anno 2057 with Sci-fi shooter aspect.

Well, if this is true, I imagine we'll find out for sure at next week's GDC. That's when they're likely to announce it officially - if true.

Ooooh, I really, really, really, really hope it's true. And I really really really hope it's not as dire as Societies was. SimCity is one of my favourite games, ever, so a proper sequel would be really lovely.

SimCity 4 was actually one of the best games in the series, I thought. It was more realistic, and a lot harder (maybe a tad too hard at times) - I generally thought it was very good. Especially with the Rush Hour expansion. SimCity 2000 is still the best though.

Lol at Anno making all their games having a date consisting of digits that would result in "9" when added together.
For one thing, Tiff is not on any level what I would call a typical American.  She's not what I would consider a typical person.  I don't know any other genius geneticist anime-fan martial artist marksman model-level beauties, do you?

You make me cry.... mostly cause in all the years playing the series, I never noticed.  :'(

I think I'll go cheer myself up with some ANNO. (and be reminded of my folly)

I had sim City in the sNES, epicness, RTop and Ctops were the most epic things back then (2 squares combined :o)
SimCity 3000 was epic,
SimCity 4 was amazingly hard. . .although it taught me a lot more about managing a simulated city :P made 3000 seem like a walk in the park

SimCity societies was a piece of crap since the economic aspect just goes down the drain

. . .TBH I really liked SimCity 4, it had its things. . .but it was too hard at first, after a while I finally understood that you have to dump education down the drain to get the city back on its feet and then start pumping into education once your numbers are black again. . .

Man I sooo understand Congress (joke)

I have the original German preview in front of me (on my desk). And the preview is based on a visit of GameStar at Maxis. Maxis said that they are probably needing around a year to finish the game.
And it's not set in the future but present.
As the subtitle of the ign article says: Curved streets!!!

I knew nothing of the outside world. I was just a frog in a well.

Sim City 4 is only hard if you try to please everyone and be the super popular guy. In the beginning of the game if you make a slum town with almost no infrastructure, people will hate you and all, but it will bring you so much money that you can start on the big projects quicker.

I was super hooked on SC 2000 back in the day. SC 3000 was fun but I can't remember why I never really got into it. I think I lost my disc or something. I know I later picked up SC4 and and found it to be pretty fun. I don't get all the hate for it but like I said, I didn't get too much time to play 3000 so maybe I'm missing something.

If they do make another SC, I hope it goes back to its roots and doesn't turn out to be another Societies. That game was an epic fail.

So... Maxis wants to make a fun game, while EA is collaborating with third party to make a propaganda game...

Why do I want to take EA executives, lead them into a dark basement and have them all executed? No really, they are trying hard to fuck up everything they get their hands on.

Man Im just hoping they stick to the SimCity original gameplay. . .(you know, management) cause If they pull some "SimCity Societies" shit again. . .thats just gonna be EPIC FAIL!. . .Im hoping it will be something between 3000 and 4. . .they both had their ups and downs. . .

as long as its not a huge tamagotchi. . .I'll be happy

Oh, there will be a feature somewhere in the new SimCity game that will scream "EA". You can go ahead and have your sick fun with EA executives... I'll turn the blind eye (only if you'd allow TALENTED people to work and manage EA; post-slaughtering of fat rich assholes).

As for management gameplay. There needs to be another layer beyond building, adjusting budgets, being advised, and then expanding. I think the game should definitely have more real world problems in place. For example, if you invest a percentage of money each month to keeping your small town clean, that percentage will obviously change as the city gets bigger. The twist to it though would be rewarding you by being an environmentalist in the long run. On the flip side, being a polluter will only bring you short term rewards with consequences in the long run (places in your city that are unlivable until you pay to clean it up).

I kind of remember playing Anno 2070. Liked the approach there more, because the polluting faction was so damned effective, that I could build a dirty city quickly and then have cash and resources needed to clean up the mess.

Yeah, it's prerendered. Note the "images not representative of actual gameplay". Still, I loved the article. Can't wait for this one to come out.
