When to Move On (Change Ava/Sig)
« on: February 29, 2012, 06:30:16 PM »
Though my profile says I registered in '06, I'm fairly positive I've been around longer than that. More importantly, however, is the fact that I've had the same ava and sig since I first started. I've only ever made one change to it - I had a friend insert the Fortress Forever patch on Vicious' arm and downgraded the picture quality for a "rustic" look. Now, however, I feel it may be time for a change.

Some of you guys, like Nikkoru, change your avas and sigs more often than your socks. Others, like Ace, are more like me - post it and forget it. In fact, I've decided in my mind that Ace is Rob Zombie or his clone. I've seen pictures of his trips and know he looks nothing like him, but in my head Rob Zombie is replying to my posts.

So, the question is simple. How often do you change your ava/sig and why? Is it with every anime you watch or just when you're bored and feel creative? Those who feel like chiming it about it can support or deter my change as well.

It's not me - it's you.

When I first joined I would change it fairly regularly. Now I only change it if I see a pic that I particularly like that would make an easy avi. I no longer care about actually creating something in photoshop anymore and tend to forget I even have one since I keep all avis/sigs hidden.

I used to change it so much more often. Now that I am in the latter part of 20s. I've kind of settled on one, though honestly. I really need to find a better version of my current one. It looks a bit too much some sort of Avi pack.

How you talked about Ace being Rob Zombie is how I think about avatars.  I consider my Scott Pilgrim robot avatar as part of my persona here.  I wouldn't consider changing it, both because I've done like 2000 posts with it, and also because nobody else here uses Scott Pilgrim images so it's unique.

When I'm in the politics forum reading posts I often don't even look at the names, I look at the avatars first and am like, "oh, it's vicious posting" or ace.  I like people using the same avatars either forever or for long periods of time at least.

Its funny you mention this. I use dot just look at avis and decide whether or not to read the post. Now I just have them all hidden tho because I browse publicly more then I used to and, well, I just dont want that visible.

My tracker avatar has not changed since the day I joined.

I just get bored easily and find looking for new backgrounds and icons for my desktop or avatar images for my forum accounts to be something that I can waste an hour or two on thoughtlessly. I don't particularly care about the effect, the effort is occasionally enjoyable. I don't have photoshop, so I just use freeware to clean them up and refit them to my purposes. I'm not particularly aesthetically oriented, so they're more or less the original images.

I'm not concerned with outward expressions of my personality. I hope my posts' contents accomplish this well enough. If you can't recognize me by my writing style alone at this point then I've failed or you're unobservant. I don't generally pick from series or characters I dislike, however.

In the few forums I've ever posted in, I've always used a Zoidberg pic so it's become a personal tradition.  I do, however, frequently change my forum signature & personal text, usually to whatever amusing snippet last occurred to me.  Puns, stupid jokes, whatever pops into my head, regardless of whether it's original or not.  I have a whiteboard in my cubicle at work where I do the same, just write whatever silly thing I think of.  The latest one I've adopted is, "I certify this to be deflect free." which, speaking as a software tester, is immensely funny to me.
It took an hour to write; I figured it'd take an hour to read.

I've had mine for ages (read: 2+ yrs, I think).  Tatsujin made avatars and signatures for me.  Honestly, I doubt I'd change it.

Yeah, I tend to spice up the text in my sig every few months or so... might be time to do it again.

I tend to keep one image for a better part of the year. I change them whenever I stumble upon something interesting and think "I want that as my avatar".

However, I do look at avatars. A lot of the tone I read a users message in comes from my interpretation of the avatar and yes, I believe that Ace is Rob Zombie.

Anytime I feel like making a new set I do. Whenever I feel like uploading it and changing it, then I do. I have several that I have yet to put on.

I change it when I feel like it or do not feel righr with the one I have at the moment or when I get bored. People say that one can tell just by looking at my set that it is my ser...well it does always have my nick name there:D

Step 1. Look at my avatar.
Step 2. Refresh the page.
Step 3. Look at my avatar again.
Step 4. Feel the magic arise.

Edit:
Changed it to a static one since it seemingly did now work correctly.

Uhm... Uhh... *cough* Yes, of course! You solved the riddle! Congratulations.

...

Edit:
Huh, it seems to only work like 50% of the times in any other browser than Waterfox. Refresh again :]

Edit2:
Ok, changed it now to a static one since the previous seemingly did not work correctly.

OnT: I change it whenever I feel like it. Sometimes I keep the same avatar for years, sometimes less than a week.
