Some scientist discovered that you can send data directly to brain without any wiring, so yeah, in the near future it could be completely possible to do that, maybe it will be addressed later, but it doesn't bother me at all at this point, reason being: It's anime.

Lol, this got blown way out of proportion. I was only using that as an example. Little things (technology in particular, I find) which aren't really important as such, but are essential in supporting the plot, really bug me when they aren't dealt with properly, or are, but are just completely ridiculous. I remember getting really annoyed by Die Hard 4 (to pick the first random example to pop into my head) for the same reason.

When the need for suspension of disbelief gets too big, I'm not able to do it, is what I'm saying. Nothing more. I'm certainly not commenting on how good or bad this show is either; just that so far, I don't really like it either. There's no need for everyone to get so worked up about it.

Although I will say... Garret, did you actually watch the first episode? You clearly missed the "2000 people died in the game's first month". And someone was talking about a 2 year timeskip in the books somewhere earlier in this thread. Time is not an issue.

I'm not watching parts after ED as more often than not it has previews of next episode. Good to know there is part of the story in there, thanks. Although that still isn't conclusive about your "plot holes". And this title is focusing on surviving (at least that's how it looks like after first episode) ingame. For all we know, there can be major shitstorm in the real world but with no results. And I don't see what's the problem with taking "It's the future and anime, it's possible." attitude.

And sure, Die Hard 4 is silly but still fun to watch

The easy solution is nuking the sucker! No but seriously a Electromagnetic pulse would probably do the job. The device would need to have a Faraday cage to be protected from a EMP, but if it had one it would also block the Microwaves from killing the user.

Sadly that was the first thing that popped into my head when watching the first episode! It is a very small thing to ignore for reality's sake considering the crazy stuff other anime do. Currently watching Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon as well and the first episode made me go WTF?!! What the hell were these people smoking when they made this? lol...

I enjoyed Dot.Hack, and it was significantly more scienteriffic than this. Blending cyberpunk MMOs into high fantasy quest stories creates some interesting narratives and cool visuals without the need for complex world building or fantastic characters. I expect this to be more action oriented than the Dot.Hack anime -- as much I love the often terse philosophic discourse on reality in the age of simulacra and ontology in a post-A.I. singularity world, it didn't exactly make for light entertainment.

I approve of the indications in the first episode that the protagonist is already thinking like a Munchkin, bless his soul. I hope to see him stealing kills and ninja-swiping the best loot.

Well it gets interesting, but still I need some more episodes to get the feel of it.

Anyways I liked this anime from the very beginning, and I'm sure it'll get even better.

Episode was interesting. But I want to find more about his (Kirito's) personality. I'd like to see him in real life as well though. I had the feeling he has a hard life or some problems. Maybe health problems?! Well, I just have to wait and find out))

Looking forward to the next episode.

I'm 100% certain that Asuna isn't going to leave him like that and will stick with him till the very end.

Not sure what taking on the blame was meant for, but he did show them off right there and then. And I technically agree: he knows the most of the game, so people should be thankful for him lending them a hand, even if it is to ensure his own survival.

But I wonder, though, do these bosses just respawn after they are first defeated? You can't tell me that only these players made it to the first level boss. That would make the selection quite thin, if true.

As for the bosses, it was said that nothing respawns, which means the XP points are also limited, just like he said, in the first episode, but the progress might not be meant as selection process. I'm also not quite sure if the players really die, even though what was said already is quite logical and stuff, I think that there is some sort of backfire on the players forcefully logged out, it could be a coma, but I'm not sure if they really die.

The thing about Beta Testers is that they have a certain advantage, but only because they already know stuff, that doesn't mean new players are in any way weaker than Betas. New players learn fast, and the only ones complaining about beta players are those that put the least effort into the game, lets call the super casuals, I seen this battle with the boss 2 times, and that guy that complains about beta's practically didn't do anything, he was standing behind. Talk about Hypocrisy.

The writers have been clever in the way they set up the parameters of the Sword Art Online gaming universe. The specific limitations they've included -- eliminating mages, dedicated healers, bards, or any standard party dynamic, means Kirito doesn't have to spend time finding the usual suspects for a party before doing shit. Eliminating the respawns prevents the tedium of grinding, which would also be uncool to watch, and obviously limits the number of players who are of any use as they tower climb (and thus of any interest to us) to a minority.

In this episodes we saw how it was easier with fewer -- yet more skilled -- players in the fight. We'll probably spend the next episode learning how impossible it is to go it alone, even if classes don't exists and Kirito is awesome by default.

Let's face it, if Kirito spent the rest of the series dragging the whiny generics behind him up the tower it would get tedious fast -- but we'd be naturally skeptical if he could suddenly solo the whole thing with leet skillz knowing how MMOs typically operate -- so they're striking a balance. One that fits well with his apparent lack of social graces yet generally pragmatic attitude.

Actually Kirito already explained a lot about xp and party in the previous episode, if he took another person it would be fine, but larger groups would be inconvenient, I can relate because I hated doing party in MMO games, even if party gets you some tasks done faster or making them possible, but a 2 person party in any MMO is usually safe and optimum.

I played SW:TOR as beta tester, MMO as a normal player, RO as beta tester and normal player, Dynasty Online as beta tester, Persona Online as Beta and normal player, and I can safely say, that a party of 2 can do a lot and you get more experience than a normal party.

Kirito and Asuna will make a great party, Asuna wasn't in a beta obviously, but she learns fast as we seen in the boss battle, she also knows how to listen to advice and as a party member she is reliable. She also doesn't complain about beta testers, in fact she spoke not a single word in a discussion about them at all so far.

At the stairs i thought she would ask about why he was a jerk, but I was pleasantly surprised that she didn't say anything about that, she simply asked about him knowing her name. Her ratings go rapidly fast. This anime is great, I only hope to play a game exactly like this someday, maybe not exactly through a nerve link but you know

When I saw the hooded girl I thought to myself "Oh shit,another girls used as sex slaves theme?!" because why not?

While Kirito does have a huge advantage due to his knowledge, it has been shown that not everything is the same as it was in the beta. The first boss had a different secondary weapon compared to what the testers faced in the beta. The only reason he knew how to counter it was because he fought against a npc with one in the higher levels of the dungeon. I'm taking this from the dialog of the conversations during the show so hopefully HS has a decent translation!

Enjoyed the second episode and can't wait for the third!

I was iffy about the whole melee-only fighting mechanic set up on the show. It seemed more for plot convenience then a realistic approach for game development. But, after seeing that last boss fight I would love to play a game like that. They showed rather than explained how martial styles and equipment can significantly change the game play. Whether you hold a shield or not, whether you wield a heavy or light weapon, whether you wear full armour or mere clothes, these change the whole gaming dynamic rather than just being a standard class feature, some factor in your dice rolls, or pointless aesthetics. I would like to play more games which are interested in complicating our expectations rather than just trying to meet of them.

The anonymity has been strongly mitigated, their names and faces are plainly visible and I suspect IRL they're all being accounted for and sent to coma wards. Though I doubt sexual violence will be much of an issue in the anime, they haven't address the possibility of PvP -- I think -- which could be absent in this world. If killing other players was the only way left for middle-of-the-road players to collect experience and items safely, it could get messy. PCs could also try to get away with murder should their sanity become too stretched. A Lord of the Flies online-type situation. Hasn't appeared yet of course, but I think given the naive personality of Kirito and the willingness of the show to kill people, further darker twists are likely.

Yes, I'm very interested about the PVP approach, I'm pretty sure PVP was tested in the Beta so given time it will come out sooner or later. Also since your identity is pretty much exposed in this game, stress levels or simply personality will show how twisted or dangerous a person is. I don't think Kirito is naive, he shows a lot of caution so far.

HS doesn't translate, they rip directly from CR streams.

And was that a child in the beginning of the episode? She/he was walking with an adult, seems cruel to have a child in this game.

Well. This anime is getting just better and better.

Tbh I expected to see more Asuna in this episode, but well not a problem.

Was kind of a sad episode, i didn't want them all to die like that out there, but Kirito wasn't at blame. I mean he didn't do anything wrong, he tried to do everything he could to save them, but situation was dire, what could he do?

And many people whom I know and who's watching this anime said like "Is Kirito a bad guy, why did he said such things in the end of 2nd ep?". Well this episode clears everything. Kirito is a very good guy, with a kind heart, and I hope he won't be down about all of this for a long time.

Oh and i thought that Cline would be dead by now. I'm glad he's not. I think, I just think, that Kirito, Asuna and Cline will unite at some point and fight together.

So, this much about this episode. Really looking forward to the next one
