10-bit and 8-bit the new standard?
kitamesume:
^ or to increase the size while reducing artifacts and bandings, coalgirls tends to do this.

Right now only Anime Groups are encoding files to 10-bit, which is quite overkill and I can not see the difference.
Sure "they say" it has a clearer/cleaner image but I can not even see the difference between both formats.
Than you have the file size issue and the most important thing, ALL media players like WDTV can not play it because the ""hardware"" does not support 10-bit, you will have to ditch your current media player for a new one which has yet to be released to the market, it is really annoying, since I use my WDTV alot to play animes on my TV.
the only way to do it, is to download the latest CCCP codec and than connect your laptop/desktop to TV.
Anyways...
the real question... what is the best software I can use to convert 10-bit to 8-bit?
kitamesume:
^theres a thread about it, i forgot where it was.

So you've decided to just skip reading all the technical stuff and voice your disapproval? Well this is typical.

Correction: it's widely used in anime, and nowhere else. And anime is a small niche, so good luck wating for 10bit hardware support. You barely have support for profiles over High/L4.0 now...
