Apparently if you get your hands on the K-client, you can override the NA censoring. Just switch the files.

Been playing a bit of beta and I gotta say, its pretty fun. I have not decided if I am going to pre-order it or not yet since in my experience, when you jump on a game like this when it first comes out there are still a handful of kinds to work out, but meh... I will likely end up buying the game anyway.

The westernization is not quite as bad as I had expected with a few exceptions with certain armor schemes, but it appears you can get costumes so you dont have to see some of the rather ugly outfits.

The only race that is censored is the elin. If you go to http://tera-mods.blogspot.fr/ you can get find the mod to remove the censoring. If you want the most recent version look in the comments under the elin mod someone uploaded a more recent version of the korean elin files. The rest of the races look the same so unless you feel like adding the npples back to characters from the earlier closed korean beta I wouldnt bother with it. Its not that hard to switch the elin files I have been using them for my priest. Anyone that hasnt tried the open beta yet today is the last day. Game is pretty fun. Espically if you like grouping its kinda fun to just group with poeple can farm the bams for awhile on a repeatable or something.

Why are you guys dwelling on the appearance of the characters? Sure, the armor is impractical and... non-existant and the elin look as creepy as the ones who "admire" them.
But, the appearance of the characters are so easy to ignore. You roll a different character that does not expose over half their skin, or you play the character and wear armor that covers you up to a satisfactory amount. Then the only way you'll ever see "skanky" armor is when you have to interact with people who have characters that do wear "skanky" armor. Even then, camera angles and a sufficiently long camera distance will prevent you from seeing anything that would appeal to anyone's pruprient interests.
So why dwell on this point, when there are larger issues with the game? Why not give the game a chance on its other features, instead of discarding it for some minor feature that can be completely ignored?

People who say things like "only horny teenagers and 30 yr old virgins play female characters exposing skin", you have no idea how silly you make yourself look, it's basically saying "sex appeal only works on males between 16 and 30 yrs of age that have never experienced intimacy with the fairer gender".

In any case, the game is fun but I'm still leaning towards guild wars. In terms of features, i believe gw2's long list of dotpoints on "new" features adds to an mmo as much as tera's combat system. However, I trust GW2's developer more for future content whereas tera's developer are less inclined to communicate with their foreign players. GW2's developers tried harder to innovate, whereas tera's combat system has already been done in earlier korean games like vindictus, dragon nest and monster hunter.

If any other race could be a cat-girl then I would not play an Elin. Also, chill the fuck out. For all the shit you talk about over-looking the armor and not dwelling on appearance, you sure get hung up on other peoples toons (or more to the point, the people who play them (which is even more lol))

I started playing TERA with one of the guys in my class. It's interesting, the combat system is fun, but I'm not even 20 yet so I'm in the doldrums I guess. I'm playing an Elin mystic.

I still prefer RIFT, though, I like the customization a lot.

The linear nature of your Euclidean geometry both confounds and befuddles me.

Challenging the elite mobs all the time rocks! The only elite ones I couldn't battle solo were those arachnens(sp?) in these mines.

Worth mentioning chars: female Castanic Warrior (34) and Baracka Lancer (30).

I knew nothing of the outside world. I was just a frog in a well.

I'm interested in TERA simply because it doesn't have the same buzz to it that all the other recent MMOs have had. Is it really just about the combat? Or is there more to the game than that?

Tera has alot of the same features you see in most modern mmos. Dungeons with a Dungeon finder like wow, quests is basic kill quests pretty much or collect something. They have alot of repeatable quests for poeple that like to grind. Recently they turned on Nexus which is sorta like rifts from Rift if you have seen them its an outdoor sorta zergfest. They are pretty cool to bad its not like rift were they spawn all the time for now they are just set spawns. They area adding more dungeons, Nexus events and Battlegrounds during the summer probably. So all in all the game doesnt really offer anything new as far as basic gameplay options. The thing that really sells the game is the combat. If you like the combat system, the aiming spells and attacks etc then you can really get into the game. If you cant get into the combat system you wont like the game no matter what it offers. Me personally I love the combat system and so far I have tried several different classes and I havent disliked any of them. Each of them feels different enough with the way there abilities work and how you aim etc to make them fun. Also elins are pro race all of my characters are elin!

I hear there are also scantily clad lolis.

If you dont use the korean elin files then the lolis are pretty much covered up. They do have alot of outfits that reveal there underwear or there bellybutton if you use the Korean files but all the female races expose themself so I dont really see an issue. The only reason elin got changed is because the Us is a bunch of prudes and heaven forbid characters in a game that someone might think characters that look young should show any skin or thier underwear.

So there's fanservice in general and not just for lolicons. Got it.

It's worth the box price just for the combat. It's that good. Currently endgame is a little lacking. There's a handful of dungeons and that's it basically. And the laggy Nexus events. Nothing groundbreaking there. There's a major patch rumored to hit late summer which will bring back battlegrounds and add more endgame dungeons. If you can wait, that's probably the best time to try this game.

Pros of Tera:
1. Combat. This is how mmo combat should be. I'm not sure if I can go back to tab targetting games after experiencing this.
2. Artstyle. Tera is easily the best looking mmo out in the market right now. Their art team did a great job in the game. Even lowbie armour is highly detailed and gorgeous. And some of the game environments are breathtakingly beautiful.
3. Dungeons. Instances are great in this game. Even fighting trash is fun and bosses are just epic.
4. BAM's. Can be done in a group, but the most fun way is to solo or duo them.

Cons of Tera:
1. It's a Korean game. Korean mmo endgame revolves around getting your equip to +12. That means lots of grinding.
2. Fanservice. This can either be a pro or con, depending on your taste. Tera is boobs and panty shots galore.
3. Poorly translated. Not the actual quest text etc but the game in general. They made many questionable decisions when westernizing the game. Examples include retuning some of the previous endgame dungeons to become leveling dungeons. Why they did this I have no idea. I would rather have more places to run at endgame than while leveling to be honest. Plus the fact they made leveling trivially easy, you won't be spending much time in those dungeons because you will out level them very quickly. Crafting is also semi broken because of their tinkering. It's obvious you're not suppose to level crafting past a certain level right now because the entire system is out of whack. You will need to grind hours just to gain a few skill ups.

In Korea the original level cap was 50, then it was 58, then it was 60. If you look at dungeons thats why they progress the way they do. That is why there is a hard mode dungeon a 48 when everyone is still leveling. That is why there is dungeons for 58 with gear set that replaces at 60. Crafting also wasnt changed at all. Its the same as it is in Korea. It was designed to be a grind because craft gear can be the best gear end game. People in the US and Europe dont like to grind as much as Koreans do so they will probably need to make some changes to crafting.

I know it's super early but I wish they had a weekend pass of some sort so I could try the battle system. The politics of the game look pretty cool, too, though I haven't the time to lead a guild and manage anything. Just seems like something "special", if you know what I mean.
