Author Topic: Original XBox Japanese or Anime inspired games? (Read 2927 times)

I'm on of those people who despite owning a current gen console enjoy playing games from the last gen that I missed out on.

Over the last couple of weeks I have taken a break from my 360 and have been playing some good old XBox games on my original XBox. So far the only games that I have come across are Shenmue 2 and the Fatal Frame series.

Can anyone give me some Xbox recommendations that encompass Japanese culture or more specifically anime influenced games?

protip: if you want japanese/anime games then play ps2, not xbox
Looking at my collection of xbox games the only ones that kinda fit are:
Phantom Dust
Murakumo
Phantom Crash
ofc these don't have anything to do with japanese culture, nor are they anime inspired...(unless you count anything mecha related to be anime influenced)

Wow! I just read a review and the game sounds amazing. It got great reviews but seems to have been overlooked by many gamers.

What really surprises me is that it actually features both English and the original Japanese language tracks. I wish more Japanese games would give you the option to play with Japanese audio and English subs.

I am definitely going to be checking this game out.

There are a lot of anime J-RPG games, such as .hack//, Tales of Symphonia, Tales of Vesperia, Shin Megami Tensei, Saint Seiya, Xenosaga, Valkyria Chronicles, Odin Sphere, etc. You should check out for J-RPG games with anime chars on them. Try looking for them in GBA and Original DS, since they're mostly there, rather than in 3DS.

I know only of Otogi series, if you're looking for original XBOX games... :/

But I need the special controller to play it and it seems rather hard to find. Ebay doesn't even have it with the controllers. The only auction they have is for two complete games with controllers and two complete xbox consoles for $1,600!

Even if I find just the game with complete controller I imagine it's going to set me back several hundred dollars.

I had no idea it was still selling for that much, sorry about that. It is still an awesome game though, and the controller works on PC too.

They're working on a 360 version of the game that uses the kinect rather than the controller.

Not as cool, but makes the game more accessible for those who can't afford the original

Yeah, I saw the trailer for that. It looks pretty cool. I actually found out about the original after seeing the 360 version. It would be cool if they made another controller for the 360 and gave you the choice of using Kinect or the controller.

I can't remember but I'm pretty sure gundam dynasty warrior is for xbox and afro samurai if you want to count that but I'm sure you know if your looking for anime titles PS3 is the wat to go.

You can try Jet Set Radio Future !!! it's about roller skating gang battles, like in the anime named Air Gear , if you seen it or heard of it! It has some great graphics for the original xbox , although , it is a sequel , the original was on the Sega Dreamcast ,great game try it out!!!

I actually have the original on the Dreamcast but I sucked at that game so bad. I got so pissed at it that it now resides on my list of the very few games that have defeated me.

Good point that was an amazing game I only had the xbox version but the music and game play was always fun.

Sadly, not a lot comes to mind. I was pretty jealous of my PS2-having friends for said reason.

Black Stone was kind of fun. It's not spectacular or anything, but it's your basic "kill everything that moves" kind of game best played with a buddy. Sort of like Hunter: the Reckoning or X-Men Legends, with an overhead view, RPG classes, and stuff.

Here's a few I remember existing, but haven't actually played:
-Genma Onimusha
-Dynasty Warriors series
-Samurai Warriors series
-Ninja Gaiden reboot
-Silent Hill series
-Phantasy Star Online (not sure if this can be played anymore, actually)
-Robotech had a couple games... Forget the exact names, but "Robotech" is in the title

I'm pretty sure there was at least one Dragonball Z and Yu-Gi-Oh title too, if you'd want to look at them at all.

and yes, Ninja Gaiden for sure. Hard as hell, but oh so rewarding!

Forgot they re-released Onimusha on xbox, and they did with MGS2 as well. Under the title MGS2: Substance
