I myself went out yesterday to buy a "player" or more clearly the WD TV LIVE that has MKV support with subtitles, needless to say all of the "players" on the market today only has 8 bit playback and will give an error message when you try to play 10 bit.

Best is to wait till the "chips" come out for "players" that will allow 10 bit playback.

Here is some reference : http://community.wdc.com/t5/WD-TV-Live-Live-Plus-Ideas/H-264-10-bit-support/idi-p/236264

There will be no plans for a 10bit chips, I spoke with all my contacts, sigma has no desire for 10bit either does realtek, the only hope is that the newest ARM players can play it with software, the current gen ARM players can play it but with errors at the current time.

Been wondering this for awhile now...what is 10bit? Im new to torrents and all these file type stuff, and im not sure what 8 bit & 10bit is...I know that it is something to do with video files, but what exactly are they?...also i read that people are having problems playing 10bit...I use Megui to hard-sub soft-subbed MKVs to watch on my HDTV with a 40$ media player i bought off Amazon....i convert the video into an AVC, and the audio to AAC, then put them together into an MP4 container, and watch on Media Player...I don't know if ive come across any 10bit or 8bit files yet, but every MKV ive HardSubbed works and looks perfect...

^ try giving this a read, it explains everything, including on how to play'em vids, but no conversion guide tho.
