Ha! I should get around to watching that again someday. Was one of the first anime shows I ever saw.

Anyway- Kid was being a dick. Maybe got what he deserved, maybe didnt. I just feel this was more a case of the cop being all "I'll show this little fucker!" rather then actually trying to peacefully resolve a situation. At least he didnt continue to beat him when he was down or taze him for no reason. I wouldn't really consider this unreasonable force, but maybe unnecessary force.

Why does it always seem to be the fat cops who do stupid shit? Prolly because you give a position of power to someone who has been ridiculed for a large part of his life.

Honestly, I find it stranger that you even have fat cops at all. Over here in the UK I don't think I've ever seen a single overweight policeman, but it seems like in the US at least two thirds of them are obese.

Ah, that makes a bit more sense. I guess the stereotypical American cop is really fat, so that makes it seem like there are more than there really are.

But still, 1/4 is still a hell of a lot, considering they're supposed to be the ones actively going round fighting crime. You'd think being physically fit would be a requirement.

Maybe less, maybe more. I can tell you that the 4 cities I go in-between around Chicago have yet to have a fat cop from what I see. I live on the suburbs of Chicago. Inside Chicago, ....... well that's a different story.

The important thing to note is that the fat cops aren't new. They became fat later in their careers. Becoming a cop takes a certain level of physical fitness, but the "blue line" mentality keeps in people who probably aren't fit to be cops anymore. They won't boot out one of their own just because they gained some weight.

Well, in theory, police should be one of the carreers where it should be hard to actually gain weight, in a way similar to military.
In praxis, they spend 5-10 hours a day sitting in a front seat of a car, eating sweets and drinking bad instant coffee with a lot of sugar.

I'm not sure, but I think most of police personel have to pass yearly physical exams and drills here to stay employed (and to get emploeyd at the first place) here, doesn't US have something similar? I mean... It makes sense, fit cop can actually catch people instead of empting a clip into them and won't snap and beat up drunken people when they call him fat.

Maybe they are still fit? Fat people can have muscle, too, they're not mutually exclusive. They may not be fast (obviously not enough aerobics) but I bet they're pretty strong (weight lifting).

Some of the strongest people I have ever known irl are what one might call fat.

Oh, I'm not arguing about that, that's a given, on the other hand, street cop who can lift 150 kg is cool, except for his job involves no lifting and lot of (possible) running.

Well. You can always dress them up in pyrotechnic armor, and make them roll towards demosntration-crown, while yelling "Go JUGGERNAUT!".

I really don't think being a cop requires that much running. Most of it requires taking a call, going in and resolving a dispute by trying to talk things out with the parties or restraining and arresting one of the parties. The arrest takes the size to subdue and/or intimidate the person into arrest rather than the agility to chase them down.
