First, know that I haven't read any of the reviews.

That said, in addition to the possibility that they just need to make some new drivers for it, perhaps its expected that it will get seriously overclocked? Maybe? With a die shrink it should be possible to clock it significantly higher right?

Gaming wise, in stock it already performs exceptionally well.
Nearly 30% increase in clock core and about 18% in memory clock didn't give much of a performance boost.
I'm referring to the article on Guru3D.

In our review (link above) the increase in performance was similar to increase in clocks. We got about +20% GPU and +17% memory.

If you are looking for a review of the GTX-680, the TechRadar one has a pretty good one.  It mentions the ramifications of the GTX-680 being based upon the GF104 as opposed to GF110.  Thus, while it is currently "top dog", the article says nVidia pulled its punches with this release.

The core branding and specs are what everyone is speculating about.
If it's suppose to be their flagship then it would've been named as GK110, just like how GF110 is for the Fermi GTX580.
And as you can see below, besides the GTX285 because that's just out of the question, the memory interface has shrunk.

Well it's all just speculation right now and maybe nVidia is trying something different, we don't know.

What's the point of shrinking the memory interface? ... I still don't understand what nVidia is doing. There's less data being processed with less memory interface ...

its because they upped the memory frequency by 50%, thats why they could shrink the interface by 33%, plus 256bit interface is cheaper than the 384bit is what i've heard.

they didn't lower the overall bandwidth is what i'm saying.

Though with three times the number of stream core's and a higher clock frequency I expected the new card to score around three time's the previous card's performance. I guess the software ain't taking full advantage of all the new hardware.

It doesn' scale this way, as a GPU is not made entirely of shader processors. If you look here: http://www.purepc.pl/karty_graficzne/test_geforce_gtx_680_vs_radeon_hd_7970_pojedynek_kart_dla_graczy you'll notice that the card only has double the amount of texturing units and half the amount of ROPs compared to GTX580. On page 3 of said article you also have a more in-depth architecture comparison.

I don't see how a Polish site will interest much people to look through the article.

Rumors concerning the GTX690 is flying about. And it looks like two GPUs slapped together, just like the previous generation.

The images are quite self-explanatory, and then there's google translate if you really need it. Besides, I was too lazy to look for this info on an English site ;)

GTX 690. I want this card more than the GTX 680. Infact, this is the best card on the market at the moment. It packs some kick ass specs and does a hell of an amazing job playing games at an amazing level. Plus -- 44 Celsius under full load? ... ....... I want!

The price tag on it sucks thou ...

Hmmm .. ya you are right. I'm gonna do more searching on this. And it does make me worry about running two cards ... I don't want to do the SLI thing anymore. Dual-GPU on a single card seems like the best choice at the moment. Less heat and less space inside the case, more air flow. Mmm ...

oh yea, do these cards suffer from micro-stutters and such like other sli-ed cards does?

75 degrees Celsius on 100% load ain't too bad.
Being able to pull an uber >300FPS is on MW2 is certainly silly, even though the game is old but being able to go somewhere no other card can is something.
Only on 3D mark that AMD could actually touch the scores of the GTX690.
The results aren't that surprising, they doubled up on the important stuff from the 500s so at least it's showing.
Again something not most of us will buy, 999 dollars can buy me a high end entry level spec build already.

If it was 750 dollars ... it would be worth it, but 1000 dollars is very expensive. Maybe the prices will get chopped in few months.
