So Hunger Games is just Battle Royale?

(1/3) > >>

Scudworth:
I know it's based off of a book, haven't read it. but according to wiki it was first published on September 14, 2008 while Battle Royale was made in 1999.

But It's been getting a lot of buzz lately so I thought I would look into it. The description I read said
Teens battle to the death on an island for entertainment
Is this even worth watching? Battle Royal was pretty good. I doubt that this could be better.

Chiyachan:
It's nothing like Battle Royal. Having seen Battle Royal and READ THG, I'm very much looking forward to seeing THG. It's ace.

Nikkoru:
They've been making dystopian gladiatorial epics for a while before Battle Royale.

Hunger Games is dark, but it's not a mindfuck - I think that's the major difference.

rostheferret:
Battle Royale was apparently influenced by Stig of the Dump, though the plot's are nowhere near as close as between BR and THG. The main difference is that where Battle Royale was an in depth psychological character study, analysing a new generation of children and how they react in a survival situation with further  questions raised as to the politics within a democratic government restricting it's peoples freedoms and the extreme path it takes to population control, THG is an action flick where they get off with each other at the end. Though now that I think of it Battle Royale did that too. THG looks like a dumbed down version of BR basically.
