from what I read from the manga
(click to show/hide)if any there will be a rivalry with the upper-classmen, which are, in fact, heavier calliber weapons (heavy MG's or assault carbines afaik, need to read that chapter again).
also, school is splitted in 3 classes:
elementary level = small calliber (ex: 9mm)
middle school = medium calliber (5.56x45 or 7.62x39, for example)
high-school: heavy calliber (.50 cal. and so on)
