Watching 10 bit anime on flatscreen TV's ***GUIDE***
Necro89:
A lot of us like to use dvd players and LCD/LED tv's to watch anime (because iets just so much more leetsauce) ;D
Now with the new 10 bit anime we are running in to pix-elation problems when we convert to .avi and .mp4 and using it with a USB drive in the LCD, and also loosing the "pretty" subs that go with it.
Now here is a few steps to get past these problems.
*First of - converting 10 bit anime from .mkv to .avi without pix-elation happening (example green blotches and square's all over)
1) Use "Any Video Converter" to convert to .avi as this is the only program so far that can successfully convert 10 bit anime without pix-elation.
*Remember to use the info you get from the uploaders torrent page on "BakaBT" 8) to get the correct "Video bit rate" and "voice bit rate" and also use the x264 codec.
(***STEP 2 is OPTIONAL***)only if you want the nice subs.
2)Getting back your "pretty" Subtitles ;)
*We need to remove "Any Video Converter's" soft subs feature since they suck and throw your screen full of numbers and weird text.
Here are the steps-
1-Open C:\Program Files\Any Video Converter (64bit* is Open C:\Program Files (x86)\Any Video Converter)
2-Do a search for "mplayer"
3-remove the "subfont.tff" file. (This will block AVC from converting to .avi WITH the subtitles)
4-Install a program called "Auto Gordian Knot" (This will help to get back your "pretty" subtitles)
5-After you converted to .avi with any video converter open up "Auto Gordian Knot"
6-Now we need to download the subtitles or .ass .ssa .srt files. ( the best site I found is http://kitsunekko.net )
7-now rename the subtitle file to .ssa since Auto Gordian Knot works with this file extention.
if you cant change the file extention follow these steps....Open up any folder>press ALT>go to TOOLS>FOLDER OPTIONS>VIEW TAB>and untick "Hide extentions for known file types" then click on the subtitles file and press F2 now you should be able to change the extention.
8-In "Auto Gordian Knot" open up the episode that you just converted to .avi in the Input area, press Ctrl F8 and a subtitle option will open, now add the subtitle (.ssa) file in that area, and next choose your output location. Tick the "Target quality" and set to 100% now click add job and then start.
And PRESTO after a not so short :P process you have a 10 bit .avi with "pretty" subtitles hardsubbed onto the .avi ready to be played on your LCD/LED tv and dvd player or XBOX and PS3.
Sorry for the long rant but if your like me that love anime to much and enjoy it on tv this is a good solution to your problems ;D

So shouldn't this go into Tech sect?
And man your guide is a little too... how do I put this, well quality wise, I wouldn't do this.
Here are some points that you should think about:
1. It ain't 10-bit anymore after the conversion process.
2. If you want to keep the pretty subtitles, mind as well just extract them out from the mkv container and hardcode them into the video.
Oh well why do I even bother, not everyone likes doing things the manual and hard way, this is indeed much simpler for those who just want to get it done.
rostheferret:
Method two.
Step One: Plug your computer into your TV.
Step Two: There is no step two.
Necro89:
True you can just extract them but most people dont want to install mkvtool since iets not a very user friendly program, and my tv is faaaaaar away from my pc ;D
And yes its not 10 bit anymore but at least it keeps a whole lot of quality without going all green and pixelated on you.
kitamesume:
actually, theres a much more simpler way of watching videos without buying extra players, and doing extra chores... just g.dd.mn watch it on your computer dang it! whats your computer for anyway!?
