I'm being promoted... twice!!!
« on: April 12, 2012, 04:12:07 AM »
I've worked at PetSmart for about two years now. Last Summer they promoted me from a Petcare Associate to a Lead Petcare Associate, which is essentially an assistant department manager position without the managerial title. Now I'm proud to announce I have not one, but two more promotions in my upcoming future! First, I'm being promoted to Support Manager. I can't go directly from lead to department manager despite already knowing how to do most of the department managers job. The problem is, a department manager is expected to be able to run the store in the absence of any other manager every so often, and I don't know enough about other departments to do this. So my job for the next two month will be to learn the ropes of the other departments. In June, however, I will be promoted again to Petcare Department Manager! Finally, a salary job is within my grasp!

Congrats;), always nice to get rewarded for the work you do:)
The problem with the world is that the intelligent  people are full of doubts, while the stupid ones are full of confidence.

two years... must've been tough. i didn't mean it in an offensive way, since most people end up quitting after a year.

tho i might ask, is there any salary job that pays 100K$ a month? other than a corporate manager/scapegoat.

$100k a month?  As in 100,00 American dollars a month?  You're talking like CEO salaries.  I'm firmly middle-class, and I'd be thrilled to make $100k a year.

yea US dollars, thats why i was asking if theres even one that exists outside corporate ranks, mostly its either a CEO/Manager or a scapegoat, tho problem with scapegoats is that you mostly end up using the money as bailout fees.

i'd settle for 2K$ a month as being comfortable salary, or roughly 24K$ a year. twice that would make me settle and build a good family.

I couldn't meet my long-term financial goals on $2k a month (after taxes & other deductions), although I could survive on that and stay current with my bills.  It would just probably take me another 12 to 15 years to pay off my house instead of in less than 5.  I've been at my current company for just over 11 years now, so the nice thing about that is my salary now is about 75% more than what it was when I started.

2K$ a month would be the comfortable salary if i weren't funding anything else other than my self and the apartment that i would get. double that then i can sustain a decent family of 4ppl, excluding educational fees, since costs doesn't necessarily increase multiplicative for every additional person.

for now i'm living off my allowance, but hey! i'll be getting promoted from a high school student to a collage student in a few months!

Hmm. Do engineers count? For America, looking at this. I'd say a quite a few engineering jobs go north of 80 000$/year. Thought only petroleum engineers break the 100k/year mark.

Didn't see the "a month". Unless you're operating Obama's brain tumour or designing the new skyscraper or an oil refinery, I'd say no.

based on the list you gave, then i'm leaning at 98K$ a year, or about 8.2K$ a month, its twice my "me want" salary for a family.

since i'm about to graduate highschool and looking at my part-time job i might just grab a computer hardware engineering degree and maybe get a masters in business management if thats possible =P. i already secured my part-time job and i'd be able to become a regular after highschool. and if i manage to finish collage then maybe i would have taken over the department hahaha, not guaranteed tho.

but... boss doesn't really care what course i get, he just wan't me to finish up and start going in as a regular >,> tho guess who's my boss.

bah thinking too far ahead messes up the path.

An American should correct me on this, but I doubt these include taxes. So no, no 3.9/month for you. If you're European, 3.9 would mean roughly 2.2-2.5 a month, for americans it's probably nearer to 3, with you being taxed like it's the 18th century and all.

Goddamnit, I can't recognise numbers anymore. Still it wouldn't be 8.2 grand a month either. Even with american taxes, you're looking 5.5-6 or so at the very best.

Yep, when you see salaries quoted anywhere for jobs in the U.S., it's gross salary, before any deductions.  I live in a state without an income tax, and when you factor in various federal taxes, plus contributions to my 401k, and deductions for my health insurance and whatever the hell else they take out of it, I keep about 71% of my gross pay at the end of each pay period.

Also keep in mind that the cost of living in the U.S. can vary dramatically depending on what state you live in, so salaries vary quite a bit as well.  $100,000 a year would be great in central Florida, but wouldn't go nearly as far in some place like New York or northern California.  (If I made $100k in Florida, I'd probably plan to retire in my early 50s instead of at age 62.)

I am jealous of you, Semnae. I would love a job at PetSmart.
Closest I ever got was volunteering at an animal shelter. Prolly more fun, but no income =/
