Games you wish hadn't sucked.
« on: April 14, 2012, 04:12:57 PM »
We all have some of these.

Simply bad games aren't exactly rare, it's even rarer for it to surprise you with it's shitiness(shovel-ware or movie tie-ins come to mind). However, from time to time, you come across stuff that you wish were good and enjoyable. Does this, perhaps, summon into mind something you'd wish to share?

My most recent one is probably Chantelise. The sister, or perhaps more fittingly the parent, game to Recettear. I've loved Recettear and wished for Chatelise to be just as good. The first signs were excellent. It seemed to be a cute dungeon crawler with a similar sense of humour to the Airhead and Scrooge McFairy duo, very much what I had expected. However, then it came. The god awful piece of faeces that was the camera. Why would you design it to behave like this? It seemed to be the work of a madman, someone mad as a hatter. Not a genius thought a fool, but someone who had been sniffing glue for years. It broke it for me, I can't bring myself to get in more than past the first boss fight, even thought I want to so much.

Star Wars Episode III....

No, I mean the game. I absolutely adored it and it was so much fun yet it got a shitty scores on media websites.

As for a game that ACTUALLY sucked, GRAW 2 did. The first GRAW was awesome in every which way... just the multiplayer in GRAW 2 didn't live up. That's why I'm excited for GR:FS because it really looks like I'll have fun like in the original GR games.

Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core - TERRIBLE storyline and characters and boring gameplay.
Victoria II - well, to tell the truth I didn't play it yet but from the various forum posts I think it's not good.

Sword of the Stars 2 - it's 6 month after release and the game just reached beta-niveau playability.

i probably should've known better considering how SotS 1 worked out, but at least there the general structure of the game worked. in SotS 2 it seems like 4 different teams worked on fringe-elements of the game, only to come together a week before release realizing that non of the other groups were in charge of creating the actual game.

Holy fuck.

You didn't like Brawl?

Every single game Square Enix has ever made.

Chrono Trigger? Or are you referring specific to Square Enix games?

Aztaka - I am a Metroidvania fan and this game tires to be one but fails hard sadly.
Dreamfall - I guess it's not that bad but if you compare it to The Longest Journey it really did suck.
Syndicate (the new one) - I haven't even played the game and I still know it sucks compared to the original :)
Overlord II - Again maybe not that bad but let me put it like this: I have played through Overlord I about 6 times now and I still haven't got through Overlord II once yet, and it's not because of difficulty.
Every Settlers game after Settlers II (except 10th anniversary version of settlers II). Why did they have to remove one of the most interesting parts of Settlers which was building an effective road network?
Memories are meant to fade. They're designed that way for a reason.

Of course.  Does anybody consider Square Enix to be the same company as Squaresoft?

Some people use the name interchangeably... that's why I asked. :P

That goes for most Paradox games: they are released buggy and unfinished, but most developers actually fix their games in time and support them for much longer than typical AAA titles do.

I wish SupCom 2 didn't suck. It is a tragedy that the first SupCom has better graphics, better gameplay, bigger environments, more epic machines of war.

I wish Battlefield 3 didn't suck. Network code should be thrown into the garbage and re-written from scratch where the server does not trust the client and fix the whole bullshit "disconnected from EA" error that come up like every third game you try to launch.

I wish Fallout 3 didn't suck, but Bethesda happened.

Ninja Gaiden 3 (I was going to buy it, until I played it at my brother's house), Devil May Cry 2 and 4 (I don't get how Capcom thinks), The Force Unleashed 2 (yeah, not so much), Miles Edgeworth: Detective (Not really a bad game, but I felt like it was just tact on and dragged endlessly), every Sonic game I've rented or bought for any console since Genesis... excluding remakes of Genesis content I suppose.

I totally had Sonic 2 on the Sega Genesis and that was by far the coolest game I was playing back in 1995.

Lol I think that was the gaming disapointment of the last two decades. They started making that game before I was born.

I forgot about that game for so long, so when I heard it was coming out I bought it on release. That was a sad day.
