Final Fantasy VII. As a fan of 5 of the first 6 (I, III, IV, V, and VI) I wanted to like VII. But it was terribad, so I couldn't.

Dragon Age II. It wasn't a bad game, per se. But compared to Dragon Age: Origins? Yeah, fucking terrible. I wish EA had never acquired BioWare. I'd rather they were a division under Microsoft Games than EA. PS3 users can fuck off, BioWare games are meant for the PC.

The linear nature of your Euclidean geometry both confounds and befuddles me.

Yeah, Mass Effect was a 360 and PC exclusive... I wonder why MS never bought the rights to the other 2 games... :P

The Force Unleashed 2
Agreed, given to the right developers quite the game could be made.

Not too many others I can think of. I am almost always able to enjoy a game to some extent even though it clearly has faults.

I Am Alive, even though I enjoyed it. It could have been quite the awesome AAA-game with the right developer and budget.
Lord of the Rings: War in the North could have been a much better game, Snowblind. :(
Homefront is one game I was really rooting for since it seemed so different and also had the "homefront" feeling I loved about one of MW2's levels. Short campaign and the fact that I can't play it on my laptop when I can play so many other games.

I 100% agree that the best levels in MW2 was the suburbia levels and going through congress row. I really hope Ghost Recon Future Soldier does the same thing. XD

Other games I was disappointed by were TC Splinter Cell Double Agent (didn't bother playing Convictions) and Rainbow Six Vegas 2.

I'm looking forward to Patriots, but we need a reboot to the Splinter Cell Series (aka, no more Sam Fisher pulling a Snake or Liam Neesan)

Liam Neeson is a fucking boss. Don't mess.

RSV2 wasn't too bad, Convictions was just funny as hell. Lol marked for death, insta killll!

Also, Alpha Protocol, that game hadn't been let down by poor controls, it might have been great.

I'm gunna leave you anyway.

I was looking forward to the new Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, but in all honestly kind of hated the way it played.
For those of you that have played Singularity that, at least for me, was a huge disappointment. It had so much more potential. Then there's Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, which was just bad. Keep in mind this is probably pretty opinionated, but I liked the multiplayer in Brotherhood better than the singleplayer. That is something I never expected to happen.

Atelier Rorona/Meruru/Totori: The Alchemist of Arland. They weren't that bad, but they lacked the special something that drew me towards the Atelier Iris trilogy.

Aaaand Metroid Other M. The gameplay was rubbish and the way Samus was portrayed was very different from the image that was conveyed this far.

I personally think this gaming gen had a lot of rather mediocre games which were highly rated (for instance, Skyrim or Call of Duty).

I was expecting some heavy nerd rage following this post. I'm disappointed (I agree btw).
Mass Effect 3. Wasn't a bad game, but two arcs don't redeem it for me and compared to ME2, it was stale. Also, the combat in ME 3 was way too easy. In 2, I had fun actually putting forth some squad tactics to completely overwhelm enemies and dominate them and all classes played differently. In this one, all I did was run and shoot everything I saw without worrying about cover unless I was going against a Brute or Banshee. :-\

A few indie games:

Academagia, and Girl with a heart of. Way too short. It is like they were cut off at about 20% in.

Adding to the list: Sacred 2: Fallen Angel, a buggy, crappy game. Also Blade Kitten. Its just lame.

I'm guessing it had to do with EA purchasing them outright. I guarantee you MS would have published the sequel had EA not done it.

And I doubt it'd have been much better for it. It's not like Microsoft has been particularly great for PC gamers. And assuming we even got a PC release, it'd still have been a port.

I think Bioware was heading down this route one way or another. I can't see a Microsoft owned Bioware being told to stress the PC version any more than EA would.

I'll bite. I think 7's gameplay still stands up pretty well. I enjoy it more than the more automated approach they've been doing with the recent ones. I'm not sure the story was ever that great, but I enjoyed playing it all the same.

NiER was a fantastic game. Effing amazing characterization, but the gameplay and recycled graphics were really mediocre and terrible, respectively, and major gaming review sites pretty much panned it across the board (6s and stuff).

If it had just a bit more budget, it would have been a superb game, but instead, it had to deal by mashing together multiple genres of gameplay and use crappy pre-rendered cutscenes. Such a shame.

Also, in regards to Final Fantasy, IV and VI are much better than VII. In fact, I like XIII more than VII. And I don't like anything about Final Fantasy XIII except the battle system and graphics (which are holyshit amazing, imo). I actually enjoyed battling in XIII, if nothing else.

L.A. Noire.

It was garbage. There was no need of the open world free-roam cause there was nothing to do, not even running over pedestrians  >:(.

"Good man's" GTA. All there really was to do was fine the hidden cars and do the sidequests (of which took like 5 minutes). It didn't make the game bad because it was fun being an investigator (as I am a fan of crime dramas). Just the interrogation part of the game was outright silly.

Yeah, especially when sometimes the option "Doubt" was equivalent to "You lying scum!". I hate one word dialogs.
