Yeah, my sister has a AMD/ATi system, and she's had a bunch of heating issues with it, even with an aftermarket fan.
As with most things in the tech world, it's really just about the experiences you have with things, and I had a bad experience with that set up, so I stay awayyyyyy!

I'm gunna leave you anyway.

AMD used to be amazing - far, far superior to Intel. Sadly they've fallen behind quite a bit in the last 3-5 years, so nowadays I'd recommend going with an Intel chip as well. Not because Intel are inherently better than AMD, but because these days their chips tend to be faster and more reliable, at similar costs. Even when clock speeds are the same, I'd say current-gen Intel CPUs have an edge over current-gen AMD CPUs. Hopefully AMD will be able to catch back up and reclaim their position of dominance, but I don't see that happening any time soon.

Graphics cards are a slightly different matter. In general, I'd say if you can afford an Nvidia GPU, and it's not too ridiculously huge and over the top, then it's probably worth going for it over an AMD card. AMD cards usually offer similar (or sometimes superior) performance hardware-wise, and are significantly better value for money, but in terms of driver and software support, and features other than pure graphics power, they are significantly inferior to Nvidia. The most recent ones do also have an unfortunate tendency to run pretty hot, which can be an issue - but I don't know if Nvidia cards currently have the same problem or not.

But yeah, your current build seems fine. I'd second the suggestion of waiting a week or two, since the prices of your components will drop quite a bit as soon as Ivy Bridge is out, but other than that, no real comment.

I use megui, potoshop, cinema 4d, and other stuff that takes A LOT of RAM...16gb sound pretty F***in Orgasmic...i currently hhave 1gb, and its good enough...but 16times as much...DAMN...plus 2tb HDD is also very nice ;)

Would like opinions if this would be a good computer for heavy use

P.S
I gots NO knowledge on how to build a computer, so dont even ask -.- I just know basic parts

I got thread jacked. But that's okay.

Prebuilts are lololololol. But if you don't know what you're doing that's probably for the best anyways. Liquid Cooling though mate? That's a bit over the top dontcha think? Also, you're GFX card will most likely bottle neck your processor.

I'm gunna leave you anyway.

Don't worry about it.

Essentially it's because your processor is much better then you're graphics card, and because they work together a lot the i7 won't get used to the fullest extent. There's not much you can do about it really, just something to keep in mind.

Now I'm sure someone will correct me on this, but that's just my understanding of it.

depending on the application but yeah you are correct. . . from his app list I didnt see anything that would seriously use that 550 to its fullest. . .

hell dude if I was you instead of getting 2TB HD I would recommend 1TB HD + 1 SSD and your computer and any other program will boot up in a couple of seconds

Ha, wrong thread.  So retracted comment.

Anyways, when you mentioned the Nighthawk case, it immediately reminded me of the Nighthawk tower case on sale at Fry's right now for $199.  But their Nighthawk comes populated with 3.6Ghz AMD Bulldozer processor....  There's been a bunch of unadvertised specials on Bulldozers at amazing prices in the past 3 months and the sales on them are winding down now.  The one below is probably one of the "so so" bargains.

Round two for metro.'s computer buying attempt. Note, I didn't buy the last one, not like I'm dumping even more money in.

Check it out, let me know if I'm missing shit, or if I'm retarded with my building.

errr, since this is just theory crafting, just put some patience and wait till june, Haswell gonna be badass is a fact, unless they botch their production lines or something.

otherwise:
not a bad processor, though might as well go with i5-3570K no? 35$ more results with a vastly faster stock speed on top of it being overclockable.

well, unless you hate asrock you'd want to check their's out, they tend to be about 10$ cheaper on top of providing a bit more features.

corsair rams are never cost efficient, [$66.99 - (+ 15% off w/ promo code EMCXSVP93, ends 5/2 )]G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900)

can't say much about the 1TB Blue, its one of the most cost efficient drives out there.

GTX650Ti boost when overclocked can beat a GTX660 while being 30$ cheaper, although overclocking the GTX660 does make it faster than an overclocked GTX650Ti boost.

meh, i prefer corsair 300r, NXZT source 220, or Antec three hundred.

why a CX500, well yeah its "decent" enough though might as well go with something else?

Not theory crafting, I'm buying a PC in the next two weeks.

My issue with buying an OC'd card is longevity. Let me know if these fears are ill-founded.

My wattage needs are met with a 500w power supply though, right? Or would it be advisable to get more?

lol, well you'll be missing out some good stuffs, considering it'll be out in june which is quite near.

you only lose longevity if you run the card above a certain temperature and above a certain voltage range, if these two are within specs then you can OC without losing much lifespan.
the factors that eats up longevity is temperature, which is a factor of if your component can tolerate prolonged high temperatures. and voltage, if you ever heard of electron-migration then you should know that voltage is the cause of this.

you can get less, down to 350watts actually but thats pushing it too low.
GTX660 doesn't use any more than 200watts, actually it even uses less than 180watts, a stock i5 won't ever be using any more than 95watts too, i'm talking peak draws by the way which you can only achieve with stress-tests.
pro-tip, use the online PSU calculator, it works quite accurately.

I would wait, but the whole reason I'm getting this computer is because I'm doing a lot of things I don't want to be doing this summer. And because I'm pretty sure my computer won't last much longer. It's started getting damn hot.

wait, just getting "hot"? which is getting hot? the CPU or the GPU? the motherboard?

because if its just the CPU you can just buy a 40$ aftermarket cooler and it'll cool it well enough, same goes for the GPU or might as well upgrade the GPU, the motherboard would be a problem though if you're on a legacy system.

edit: also your system might just be getting dusty, clean it up. and add some fans, this might also help.

My GPU. I don't think you realize how old my computer is. When I bought it, DDR3 was hardly on the market.

yet it still uses PCI-Express, having an old PC is a no issue with these ones, the latest GPU does support backward mode so long as its the same socket (PCI-Express).

which means you can swap the GPU with a better one that's gonna be transferred to the future main-rig, this'll be a win-win situation since you fix your current issue while getting to wait for the up coming product line.

edit: this is what i'm currently doing by the way, i bought a HD7950 that swapped my HD6570 and a new case and PSU to house the new GPU.
the plan is to boost over-all performance with minimal parts swap while waiting for the main anticipated product line (Haswell), if ever its a disappointment i can fall-back to ivy-bridge with expected price drops.
the current place holder is an i3-2100 by the way, its quite slow for my current needs and is slightly bottle-necking my HD7950 too.
