And Zherok as an owner of a old PC, I can assure you that they run into the EXACT same issues.
I meant just with modern games in particular. Older ones are definitely an issue.

But PC games have been on largely backwards compatible and non-propriety media for a long while now. While you're unlikely to have a floppy drive on a modern computer unless you go out of your way, the CD-ROM is coming on 30 years old and still largely supported.

Additionally, PC games are a lot more likely to be available in purely digital format, and more likely to be archived in any case.

Once we master 3d optical storage, space will be a null point for current gen level games. The most advanced current lab samples can already store tens of terabytes. Once the kinks are ironed out, you could expect to be capable of holding the entire steam library in the palm of your hand. Such a system could easily archive ALL games.

Someone posted on here that ps3s top out at 320gb O_o No they don't.  Mine has a 500gb hard drive in it and I plan to upgrade it to a higher one once I can get my hands on a bigger 2.5" drive.

That would be awesome.  Seriously, it would be kinda cool to just hold it in your hands, no?

500 GBs? Let me guess... you bought it from Gamestop? The highest storage limit that SONY makes is 320 GBs while Gamestop refurbs bad PS3's and puts a 500 GB HDD in it to resell. I own a 160 GB model and it becomes moot to own a 320 GB or more hard drive because I can just hook up an external hard drive (of the two of which I own... totaling way more than any 2.5" HDD you can fit in there to fit the specs). Having 500+ GBs might be useful when I lug the PS3 around to friend's houses/etc.

About the Steam library... yes.. I would like to hold trillions upon bajillions of datas. XD

One excuse Capcom had for the on-disc characters in Street Fighter X Tekken was that they didn't want to go the Ultimate or Super route this time. Instead everyone will need to buy the base version and all of the DLC (probably to the tune of another $60) in order to have the complete version. And unlike the games themselves (I bought SSFIV for like $20) DLC often tends to stay the same price a lot longer.

Hell, GT5 Prologue still goes for $30 on PSN last I checked. Tekken *5* was still going for $30 too (less if you didn't want to play it online.)

I've bought used games in the past and "no scratches" tend to mean light scratches. No scratches should mean brand new condition but they always tend to have at least a couple light scratches. That is why I only buy used if it is the last gen or two and can't get new for a reasonable price anymore. Anything current gen, and I only buy new. In my experience, 99% of used games tend to have at least one imperfection. Fuck that. Shouldn't new condition mean perfect? After all, new games are perfect in principle.

I had some local video game store give me shit a year or so ago. I was looking GTA IV with the the Gay Tony and Lost & Damned DLC. I wanted the actual disc. I couldn't find it brand new anywhere in my area. Finally, I stopped at a local independent video game store. I asked them if they had it and they said yes. I asked if it was new, and they said "No, but why does it matter. We run our discs in a fixer which removes all scratches. Why would you pay more for a brand new copy?"

A fixed copy? Don't make me laugh.

And I'm a bit pissed at Gamestop right now. I went there the other day after buying Catherine for $60 at Best Buy. I saw they had it on display for $40 brand new. So asked them if they had any new copies in stock. They said yes. So I went to Best Buy and returned the copy I just bought. I go back to Gamestop and the dude already had the game waiting for me (I told him I would be back to buy it in a few minutes). He scans the game and I was about to fill out my check when I notice the game isn't sealed in its plastic wrap and has a puncture wound on it on top of it. The cover art was ruined. I asked, "um, do you have a brand new sealed copy?" The clerk says "Oh, that' is the the last copy we have". So the dude was going to sell me a supposedly "new" copy that had already been opened and was damaged. He tried to slip it past me. Fuck that shit. I had to go all the way back to Best Buy to buy the game AGAIN. I did get a sealed copy of Gears 3 on the same occasion for $40 but I will still be hesitant to ever buy from them again. They tried to slip shit passed me and screw me over.

Sorry, I don't mean to get off topic but...

Ugh, I bought The World Ends With You from Gamestop, new.

I take it home. No manual. Call them, they can't do anything about it.

Never buying from them again. Amazon is usually cheaper, they sent it right to my door, and they don't open my brand new shit so they can use it for a display case.

I've had that happen to me before. Quite honestly, what difference does it make (about the opened part)? If it's damaged or missing something, I wouldn't buy it. However, I have no qualms about paying full price for a game that honestly was never used before and it was used as a display case. Fretting over a piece of shrink wrap isn't worth it.

Also, when the price difference between the new and used game is like $2 (seriously)... now that's just stupid too. I'll just buy the game new.

I have never had any problems with Gamestop buying new or used games ("light" scratches or not). One time I did have a problem with a USED copy of a game. I called them up and they said come in and we'll fix the problem. Without hesitation, they went and gave me a NEW copy of the game and let me be on my way. So maybe my Gamestop just has better customer service. :P

My main issue was that the dude didn't even mention the fact it was a display case. When he told me they only had one copy left, he should have said the only copy left was a display model. Furthermore, when he was checking me out, he kept the game as far away from as possible as if he was hoping I wouldn't notice.

My other issue with buying a display case that has been opened is that they remove the disc from its case. How can I trust that they handled the disc with the utmost care? For all I know they were careless and it has smudges and even scratches. There are just too many variables once the shrink rap has been removed.

I think you may be right that your Gamestop has better customer service. Mine was truly terrible.

I can't speak for all Gamestops, but the local two regularly have "last copies" used as display cases. The discs are usually kept in paper sleeves from what I've seen.

Also fun with display copies, now having a gamestop price sticker applied directly to the case, rather than the plastic wrap.

I understand where you are coming from... but him not mentioning it is basically customer service issue with the person. They always mention to me that it's the display copy. They say "I have one left and it's the display case."

As for the handling, politely ask to see the back of the disc. 9 out of 10 times they SHOULD show you the disc and reassure you that it's pristine. If it's the off chance that you get a douche bag clerk, tell him your slapping $60 on a game that should technically be labeled used because you don't know if that was purely the display model or just the first used copy that was traded in (thus retaining it's new look). Still refuses? Call Gamestop corporate. They are great at making things right for your frustration with a disgruntled employee plus they'll even throw you some goodies.

Anyways, paying $60 for a game means you gotta make sure it's gonna work. If it doesn't work, there are ways of going higher up the chain to help you out. :P

Gamestop was nice enough to send me a second Final Fantasy X disk when the first one they sent me had warped in the winter cold -- free of charge or without going through the costly and insipid process of returning their broken merchandise. So, they're not all bad.
