TOONAMI is BACK!
« on: May 17, 2012, 04:48:47 PM »

Toonami, the programming block on Cartoon Network that introduced me and probably many of you to anime, is returning! Following the April Fools promo, and a gauge of interest by the network over twitter, Toonami will be returning to CN as a part of Adult Swim on 5-26.

Finally they put it back. After the April Fools joke there were many people who sent emails and tweeted to CN and adult swim about it. About damn time they put it back.

ANN lists it as being all anime shows scheduled on that date in TV Guide. Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist, Durarara, FMA: Brotherhood, FLCL, Bebop, and GitS.

Edit: Come to think of it, that's just what is airing now, so they may introduce something totally new. I recall reading somewhere that the premise is to make it an anime block, though I half wish they'd just rerun some of the old greats like they did for April Fools. We'll just have to wait and see huh?

that voice = Spike Spiegel
Steve Blum = Win. Apparently he was the big one pushing for its return. Further immortalizing him as one of my favorite VAs.

I assume by "Toonami will be returning to CN as a part of Adult Swim on 5-26." its just gonna be a replacement for the AS black and whites on saturdays...doubt any programming will actually change, but suppose we'll see.

I'm assuming by now you guys know they are showing NEW Bleach, Deadman Wonderland and Casshern Sins in addition to reruns of FMA: Brotherhood, Gits: 2nd Gig and Cowboy Bebop.

Yay reruns... I guess it's the only way to help the industry, not too many anime fans anymore that I know of. And even I'm tired of the direction it's going. I honestly hope they don't try to bring all that ecchi **** over here. Blasphemy I know.

Anyway I suppose it is a right step in the right direction for Funimation and CN.

It is no good for me. The Wife an I desided to turn off our satilite provider that started charging us $82 a month for thr basic package. Seeing that we only turned it on for Mythbusters, it was time to put that money better use.

I wont be watching it at all (aside from maybe background noise when I am doing other stuff) because I am not a fan of the shows they are playing aside from 1 or 2 but I have already seen those in their entirety. Even if they get new line-ups, they wont be new shows... meaning that whatever they show, I will have already watched or don't care to watch in the first place. Its liek the FUNImation TV  channel. 24/7 anime and I can hardly bare to watch it aside from maybe 1 or 2 shows.

I do support its return tho! Anime on CN was what turned me onto anime in the first place like 15 years ago, so I have love for them. Sure, it was Evangelion and Sailor Moon back then, but you know.

I watched Deadman Wonderland,Casshern Sins, and GITS: SAC 2nd GiG. Even for the shows I didn't watch I left my TV on to show support for Toonami.

If this experiment of theirs is successful after this season then i'm sure we can expect some better shows.

^ I think I'll do that as well. I was disappointed in what they were showing tbh though.

Yeah, I watched it while cleaning and doing some other stuff myself. For me, the biggest issue is the time slot. If I'm up at midnight and beyond, it is usually because there is something else I need to/want to be doing.

I wish the network the best of luck, and I'll probably tune in as a support/boredom thing from time to time. Honestly though, If I really wanted to watch Bleach/Bebop/GitS I'd just get the files.

My little grip is it isn't really toonami.

Adult Swim had an anime block on Saturday's at midnight up until a few months ago (which they removed for moar family guy).

And it primarily had Bleach, Bebop, GitS, and FMA

Think of it as Toonami Midnight Run
