help me choose my gaming laptop
anonimouse:
Why not get an Alienware? They're really well built. And I'd imagine you could take advantage of service here in the US.
I had an Asus, it eventually crapped out and Asus' warranty service?
Heh. Forget it. They literally sent me to a shop in the ghetto of los angeles where I was told that I had to go home, load another BIOS, try again, etc...
Never again.
Also, just get a desktop.

Lol they are not that well built, and their battery life is terrible. As well as being horrendously overpriced and pretentious.

The only one i've handled was really solid.
The m14x has pretty good components for its price (I could be wrong, I just glanced over it), especially compared to something like a macbook pro or vaio sb.
I do like the SB though...
If I had a 3k budget i'd just get a vaio z
Most sub 1k laptops arent even worth the trouble.

Spending that amount of money on a laptop, even if it is meant to by your primary machine is...questionable. Especially given the life cycle of them. For 3K you could easily have a top of the line gaming PC and a more then decent laptop,
For a grand you could have a more then adequate PC, and for another 500 you could probably have a decent laptop, or a top end net book.

QFT. Alienware is much like Apple - half of what you're paying is for the brand name, and the other half is for the actual hardware.
I highly doubt that anyone who likes Alienware has actually built a computer before, or has looked at hardware comparisons between Alienware machines and prebuilts from other companies.
If you gave me 3K to spend on a laptop, I would probably spend $1K plus a couple hundred of my own money for a mid-to-high-end laptop (the Asus Zenbook has caught my eye recently), $700 plus a couple hundred for a decent gaming rig, and $1300 plus a couple hundred on a decent used car, or alternatively, a huge TV, since I already have a good used car. That should give you an idea of how much money you're wasting.
